Chapter 19: The Secret of Attributes
“Just like us?”
The punkish leader sneered, clearly unimpressed. He didn’t believe a runaway could pose any real threat.
Even if the target had once been talented, years of living a peaceful life would have dulled Subject Seven’s will.
Sure, dodging the bullet had been impressive, and his perception ability was exceptional for an experiment, but today, the opponent was far stronger.
The punkish captain didn’t even need to step in; his subordinates would easily take care of the target.
**Bang!**
Sure enough, after a few gunshots echoed from inside, the team signaled that the mission was complete.
Yawning and holding his radio, the punkish captain let out a sigh, his voice dripping with disdain for the commanders.
“Wasting our time on some runaway lab rat. Makes me want to shoot them in the head.”
But just then, he saw his bloodied subordinates emerging from the building, supporting each other as they stumbled out.
“What happened? How could a small—” He was about to mock them when his face twisted in shock, blue sparks of electricity crackling around him.
The next moment, a disguised Fang Bo raised his head, his black eyes glowing with silver light, as if an invisible force was gathering within.
Mental Shock—Activate!
[TN: I dont know if this innate skill or something else, but this skill not appear at MC system]
Suddenly, blood sprayed from the punkish captain’s ears, nose, and mouth, as if a sledgehammer had smashed into his brain repeatedly.
His legs wobbled, and the electricity around him began to flicker uncontrollably.
Seeing the opportunity, Fang Bo—now fully recovered—fired a shot into the captain’s knee. The power of the *Black Star* pistol instantly shattered his right leg.
“Strange abilities, but physically you’re just as weak as a regular human,” Fang Bo muttered, confirming that the man wasn’t a Reincarnator. He approached, stepping on the man’s left leg, and slowly pointed the gun toward a spot that made the man’s face go pale.
“You have three chances to impress me. Whether you live or die depends on your performance.” Fang Bo’s voice was cold and merciless.
However, the captain still looked down on him, his attitude full of superiority.
“Beating us doesn’t mea—”
**Bang!**
The sharp pain made the man look down at his bleeding abdomen, and he let out a scream of pure agony.
“You have two chances left.” Fang Bo said calmly, moving the gun toward the man’s other intact leg.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, the punkish captain finally began to speak. He explained the details of the mission.
According to him, everyone involved worked for a research facility codenamed “Orphanage.” Fang Bo, like the others, was an experiment created there.
Each surviving experiment possessed unique abilities beyond normal human comprehension—for example, the captain could generate high-voltage electricity.
As for why they were hunting Fang Bo, the captain didn’t know much. All he knew was that the target had been a runaway experiment from years ago.
The order was to bring him back if possible. If not, they were to eliminate him to prevent him from falling into the hands of rival research institutions.
“A troublesome past, it seems,” Fang Bo thought, realizing that this was a problem left behind by the body’s original owner.
Still, there was no helping it now. He had taken over this body, and with it came the responsibility to deal with its baggage.
The “Orphanage” was essentially a human experimentation facility that illegally conducted superpower tests on children.
Given that the Reincarnation Space existed, it wasn’t too surprising that superhumans existed in reality. Fang Bo accepted this fact easily.
However, accepting it didn’t mean he was willing to waste more time on these people.
**Bang!**
Fang Bo shot the captain in the head and turned to walk toward the top of the building. As long as he found a secluded spot, he could return to the Reincarnation Space at any time.
For now, he didn’t have enough strength to deal with the Orphanage. Once he became more powerful, he would actively search for its location.
Who knows, it might even hold something that could evolve his abilities.
—
Back in the Reincarnation Space, Fang Bo realized he didn’t have much to do.
With only 50 plot points left, he couldn’t afford more training, let alone buy anything to strengthen himself.
Feeling bored, he thought about starting his next plot world early.
The interval between missions could be as short as a day or as long as a month. If Fang Bo wanted to catch up to the leaders, he needed to minimize the time between his power-ups.
Just as he was about to contact the space through his wrist tattoo, a notification came through. Someone had requested entry into his personal room.
Checking the information, Fang Bo immediately recognized the face—it was the guide, Taige.
“Let him in.”
Fang Bo had a good impression of Taige. Joining Taige’s team wouldn’t be a bad choice, but given his own special circumstances, he had to decline.
Taige entered the room quickly. After exchanging a few pleasantries, he extended an invitation to Fang Bo.
“The atmosphere within the Vanguard team is good. There’s little backstabbing or manipulation. You’re smart; you should understand the value of having a trustworthy group of teammates.”
Taige’s words were concise, but they hit the mark. Clearly, this wasn’t his first time making such a pitch.
“I’m sorry, my friend.” Fang Bo shook his head firmly, his eyes filled with determination. “I can’t join the Vanguard team. I have my own plans.”
“…I understand.” Taige smiled, unfazed. After a brief pause, he added, “I admire you, so consider this a bit of personal advice.”
“Your perception attribute is high—probably far above average. It won’t take you long to reach a base stat of 20 in a few worlds.”
Fang Bo looked at his base stat of 13 Spirit and knew Taige was right. Barring any surprises, he would hit the limit for a low-difficulty world in just two more missions.
Seeing Fang Bo’s silence, Taige continued, “Once you reach 20 in a base stat, you’ll get a chance to draw a trait.”
“Oh?”
This was new information to Fang Bo. He had only known that reaching 20 in a stat required him to challenge a gold-level main quest, or else he wouldn’t be able to increase it further.
Not only that, but quest rewards would be drastically reduced, and the difficulty would increase significantly.
“The traits you can get from the draw are usually very practical, but I must warn you—don’t rush it. If possible, aim to reach 20 in two attributes simultaneously.”
Fang Bo immediately understood what Taige meant.
“You’re saying that if I reach 20 in two attributes at the same time, the trait I draw will be even stronger?”
His *Steel Heart* was already a legendary trait, with incredible effects. If he could acquire more traits like that, his power would skyrocket.
Moreover, Fang Bo couldn’t shake a thought that had been echoing in his mind.
What would happen if he could raise his Strength, Agility, Constitution, Spirit, and Perception to 20 simultaneously? What kind of trait would that unlock?
