Chapter 23: The Bloody Battle Against the Marine Captain
“Let me handle this.”
Old Cat, pleased with the unexpected gain, decided to take action himself. Seeing this, Fang Bo loosened his grip on his Black Star pistol. Initially, he was planning to test his “Heart of Steel” trait, but since Old Cat wanted to step in, Fang Bo was curious to see how combat from the *Cyberpunk* world played out.
“Heh, a bunch of weaklings. Let’s see what you’ve got!” Old Cat tore off his right sleeve, revealing a sleek, cybernetic arm.
As the gunfire roared, the gang on the other side finally reacted. In the world of *Attack on Titan*, aside from those with Ackerman blood, most people would have been shredded immediately. But here in the *One Piece* world, even these relatively weak thugs managed to dodge some of the machine gun fire.
Watching a few of the thugs collapse, Old Cat sneered, rushing forward with his cybernetic arm clamping onto one man’s throat. “Quick reflexes. So, why aren’t you running now?”
Meanwhile, Fang Bo pulled out his Black Star pistol, aimed at the last remaining thug, who was attempting to flee. However, Fang Bo wasn’t about to let him go so easily.
Bang!
Thanks to the auto-aim feature, the bullet hit the thug square in the back. A few more shots followed, sending the thug straight to hell.
[Legendary Trait (Heart of Steel) activated. HP +1.]
“As expected, these weaklings didn’t drop any treasure.”
Holstering his weapon, Fang Bo glanced over at Old Cat, who was still gleefully dispatching the remaining thugs. Honestly, the situation didn’t need to escalate this much. Firing a machine gun in a town would certainly draw attention, even if the local Marines were lazy drunks. Eventually, someone would come to investigate.
Without any backing or influence, both Fang Bo and Old Cat would surely become prime targets for the Marines. After all, the soldiers needed to hit their quotas, and what better way to do so than by rounding up a couple of easy fugitives?
Fang Bo’s eyes darkened as he realized what was coming. He didn’t say a word and immediately bolted, the telltale sound of Marine whistles echoing from the other side of the street.
If he didn’t flee now, he’d be facing a hundred soldiers.
It might sound cool to fight an entire army alone, but no Reincarnator in this world had the strength for that—not yet. A single volley of rifle fire would be enough to kill Fang Bo instantly, even with his Heart of Steel trait. Others would fall even faster.
Knowing when to run is an essential skill for any pirate.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A hail of bullets followed, and Fang Bo felt a sharp pain in his side. One of the Marines had managed to hit him with a well-placed shot.
[You’ve been hit by a musket, causing 7+1 piercing damage.]
“The damage is no joke.” Fang Bo knew he couldn’t afford to drag this out. He immediately activated his omni-directional mobility gear, shooting a hook into a nearby roof and swinging swiftly through the streets.
As for Old Cat’s desperate cries for help, they didn’t shake Fang Bo in the slightest. This world was in faction warfare mode, and killing provided rewards. It was a miracle Fang Bo didn’t turn back and finish him off.
Rescue? Forget it.
However, just because Fang Bo had evaded the Marines didn’t mean he was safe.
Wandering aimlessly in such a dangerous world was bound to attract the attention of powerful foes.
Just as his senses warned him of danger, a gleaming blade was already closing in on him.
It was a Marine officer draped in a Justice cloak, reeking of alcohol but with sharp, predatory eyes. In a single leap, he crossed the distance between them, which had been more than ten meters.
[You’ve been slashed by Captain Monka, causing 15+3 slashing damage.]
Fifteen points from the slash and an additional three from the fall—combined with the earlier gunshot wound, Fang Bo’s health had taken a significant hit.
**HP: 65/91 (+21)**
He couldn’t believe his luck. In his escape, he’d somehow run straight into a Marine captain.
Recalling the previous exchange, Fang Bo knew there was no chance of outrunning this man. The captain’s speed far surpassed the mobility gear’s gas-powered propulsion. Turning his back would only result in another slash.
Running was no longer an option. It was time to fight.
“Not bad, you’ve got some strength,” Captain Monka said with a belch, clearly drunk. He’d heard the distant whistles and spotted the suspicious figure darting between buildings, so without a second thought, he’d drawn his blade and attacked.
As for whether he’d attacked the wrong person?
What kind of law-abiding citizen would be running across rooftops?
Even if he had made a mistake, he could simply file a report the next day and blame it on the pirates.
For the cruel and violent Captain Monka, this was just another day on the job.
What he hadn’t expected was for his opponent to survive the initial strike. He hadn’t even used his full strength, yet this man didn’t seem like an ordinary criminal.
“Looks like today’s haul is going to be interesting.”
Raising his sword, Captain Monka prepared to behead Fang Bo. But just as he stepped forward, a burst of golden lightning erupted out of nowhere in front of him.
Three towering figures appeared, their blank, expressionless faces radiating terror.
To the left stood a four-meter-tall Abnormal Titan, its massive head and bulging muscles evoking an aura of unstoppable strength.
Fang Bo had named this one “Big Head No. 1.”
[Abnormal Titan (No. 1): Strength 12, Constitution 8, Agility 10, Spirit 2, Perception 2. Trait: Sturdy Frame.]
The middle one was slightly smaller but similarly imposing, with oversized ears that made it resemble a laughing Buddha. It boasted the highest health pool of the three.
Fang Bo called it “Tutu No. 2.”
[Abnormal Titan (No. 2): Strength 7, Constitution 13, Agility 10, Spirit 2, Perception 4. Trait: Thick Skin.]
The third Titan crawled on all fours, its mouth filled with terrifying, razor-sharp spikes.
Fang Bo had named it “Lick No. 3.”
[Abnormal Titan (No. 3): Strength 10, Constitution 6, Agility 14, Spirit 2, Perception 5. Trait: Four-Limbed Beast.]
Each of the three Abnormal Titans specialized in different areas, a testament to the power of Fang Bo’s silver-tier gear and its summoning ability.
Poor Captain Monka, who had charged headfirst into the battlefield, now found himself crashing directly into Tutu No. 2.
The sword strike inflicted a devastating 48 damage on Tutu, along with a severe bleeding effect. If Lick No. 3 had been hit, it likely would have been killed instantly.
But Tutu’s thick skin made the attack almost meaningless. The massive health pool was still in play.
Captain Monka tried to retreat, but he found himself tightly gripped by the Titan. In that moment of hesitation, Lick No. 3 lunged forward, sinking its teeth into the captain’s leg.
“What the hell are these monsters?!” Monka bellowed, his sword trembling in his hands.
With a roar, Monka sliced through Tutu’s belly, his blade flashing like silver moonlight as he unleashed a flurry of over 20 strikes in a matter of seconds.
Poor Tutu, appearing for the first time in the story, was swiftly killed by this powerful foe.
However, its death wasn’t in vain. Without Tutu’s sacrifice, Fang Bo’s three bullets wouldn’t have landed so easily.
Considering the peculiarities of the *One Piece* world, those three bullets, combined with Lick’s bites, had only managed to chip away about a third of Monka’s health.
Even as his Justice cloak soaked in blood, Captain Monka still retained considerable fighting power.
Seeing this, Fang Bo continued firing, hoping to whittle down the captain’s remaining health.
“Hmph, pathetic.” Monka raised his blade, expertly deflecting each bullet. By the time Fang Bo’s clip was empty, the captain hadn’t taken any further damage.
As Fang Bo reloaded, Monka turned his attention to Lick, who was still savagely biting his leg.
“You miserable creature. Let me end you.” Monka blocked Big Head No. 1’s elbow strike with ease, preparing to decapitate Lick with a single blow.
It was clear now that Captain Monka’s Strength stat was exceptionally high. Otherwise, Big Head wouldn’t have struggled so much.
If this strike landed, Lick would be killed instantly.
But at that crucial moment, Monka felt a sudden, excruciating pain in his head. Before he could comprehend what had happened, Lick released its grip on his leg and sank its teeth into his groin.
“AAAAAARRRGH!” Monka’s scream echoed through the streets.
[Your Mental Shock dealt 10 Spirit damage to Monka, causing confusion and lowering his accuracy for three seconds.]
[Your summoned creature inflicted 12+8 critical damage, applying a “Rend” effect, which reduces Monka’s defense for ten seconds.]
The mental attack had drained about 5 points of Fang Bo’s Spirit, leaving him with only 6 points after using his summoning skill.
Mental Shock was a basic attack ability. Its power scaled with higher Spirit stats, and with enough Spirit points, it could inflict much more damage.
Right now, Fang Bo could only use it to disrupt his opponent.
While Monka was preoccupied with Lick, Fang Bo quickly reloaded and resumed shooting.
By the time Lick was finally hacked to pieces and Big Head’s throat was slit, Captain Monka’s health was critically low.
One more shot would be enough to finish him, but Fang Bo’s pistol was out of bullets, and his three summoned Titans had all fallen.
“Out of tricks, huh?” Monka sneered as he limped toward Fang Bo, his leg and groin still throbbing in agony. But even on one leg, he was fast enough to close the distance before Fang Bo could reload.
In mere moments, Monka’s sword would be plunging into his chest.
But instead of reloading, Fang Bo reached for his omni-directional mobility gear.
Two hooks shot out, and Monka, who could only rely on short bursts of speed, couldn’t dodge in time.
The sharp hooks, strong enough to pierce through walls, tore into the captain’s flesh.
At the same moment, Fang Bo pressed the gas propulsion button, activating the gear’s burst mode. Without an anchor point, this sent him skidding across the ground, leaving a trail of blood in his wake.
Fang Bo could withstand it. But could Monka, wounded and bleeding, do the same?
