- The Reincarnation World Where Only I Know the Storyline
- RWWOKS Chapter 29
**Chapter 29: The Follower System**
Along the coast, a burning warship slowly sank into the ocean.
“Waah-hoo!”
“Hahaha, this is what happens when you go against us!”
“The Black Cat Pirates are invincible!”
“Long live the captain!”
The pirates laughed maniacally, surrounded by countless floating navy corpses.
Standing on a shattered piece of wood, Fang Bo remained expressionless, detached from the others’ wild celebration.
[Achievement conditions met. Your title has upgraded to “Pirate Elite.”]
[Pirate III achievement unlocked: Become the captain of a pirate crew.]
**Pirate Elite**: Increases plundering efficiency and significantly boosts reputation accumulation within the pirate faction.
Becoming the third-in-command of the ship meant Fang Bo’s “Pirate” achievement had progressed, but to advance further, he would need to become the captain of the Black Cat Pirates.
It sounded almost impossible, at least for now.
The title of pirate captain could wait. He could focus on completing another achievement: “Enemy of the Navy.”
The requirement was to personally kill ten navy soldiers, and the recent battle had fulfilled that condition, granting him a new title.
[Achievement conditions met. You have earned the title “Enemy of the Navy I.”]
**Enemy of the Navy**: Increases damage against the navy. Initial reputation with the navy faction begins as hostile.
[Navy Enemy II: Kill 3/50 navy soldiers.]
Once a conflict with the navy began, Fang Bo could swap his Pirate Elite title for Enemy of the Navy.
For now, though, Pirate Elite was more useful, especially since after each battle, he could perform a “plunder” action.
This allowed him to seize gear from story characters and give it to his pirate crew to use.
In the recent skirmish, Fang Bo had looted a top-tier weapon from the body of a navy major.
-Name: Blade Pattern Tōshirō (Storyline Gear)
-Grade: Epic
-Type: Sword
-Attack: 8-12
-Durability: 80/80
-Attribute Boosts: Strength +4, Agility +2, Spirit +1
-Requirements: None
-Equipment Effects: Soul Slash, Soul Steal
-Origin: One Piece
-Equipment Evaluation: Be careful of its blade—it might just cut through your soul.
-Soul Slash (Passive Skill): Inflicts true damage based on the number of kills.
-Soul Steal (Passive Skill): Absorbs the souls of the dead to block incoming damage.
With its powerful attack, impressive stat boosts, and incredibly useful passive skills, this weapon was perfect for a warrior who grew stronger with each battle. Unfortunately, since it was storyline gear, a reincarnator like Fang Bo couldn’t unleash its full potential.
Otherwise, Fang Bo might have been tempted to switch to a melee combat path just to wield this incredible sword.
“Jason-sama.” A young man approached enthusiastically, carrying a bottle of fine liquor he had scavenged from the navy.
The young man’s name was Paul, who had joined the Black Cat Pirates during the last recruitment drive. Admiring Fang Bo’s strength, he voluntarily became the third-in-command’s top follower, always eager to follow his orders without question.
Most importantly, Paul had tremendous potential, making Fang Bo feel like he had struck gold.
**Paul (Swordsman)**
Strength: 8
Constitution: 14
Agility: 10
Spirit: 6
Perception: 12
**Trait**: Mind’s Eye
The damaged police goggles could only reveal basic information, so Fang Bo didn’t know exactly what “Mind’s Eye” entailed. However, through observation, he noticed that Paul always landed lethal strikes, quickly finding his enemies’ weakest points.
With the right weapon, Paul’s killing power would surely multiply.
Taking out the Epic Sword he didn’t need, Fang Bo slightly unsheathed it, and the eerie glow immediately captivated Paul.
“This… this looks like a famous sword!” Paul gasped, hardly able to believe what he was seeing.
It wasn’t until Fang Bo repeatedly signaled that Paul hesitantly reached out to take the weapon.
The moment Paul gripped the hilt, his trembling hand steadied, and he became unnervingly calm—a reflection of his discipline as a swordsman.
Gently stroking the Epic Sword, Paul understood the significance of such a gift. He felt as if he had just started a new job and his boss had given him a 20-million-dollar bonus, saying, “I believe you will create great results for the company.”
If not for his self-control, Paul might have dropped to his knees to swear loyalty on the spot.
“No, I can’t let Jason-sama down. This mission is far too dangerous,” Paul said, suppressing his sorrow as he bowed deeply and turned to leave.
Although Paul walked away filled with grief, Fang Bo received an unexpected notification.
[Paul’s Destiny Quest “Heart of Vengeance” triggered.]
[Tip: Completing a storyline character’s Destiny Quest allows you to invite them to become your follower.]
“Follower?” Fang Bo was confused. Another unfamiliar term had appeared, and the newcomer guide had no explanation for it.
Judging by the name, it seemed to imply that a storyline character could follow a reincarnator out of the story world.
Otherwise, “follower” would be a pretty meaningless title.
Watching Paul’s retreating figure, a bold idea popped into Fang Bo’s mind.
Could major storyline characters also be recruited by reincarnators?
“Well, better focus on what this so-called Destiny Quest is all about first.”
**Destiny Quest: Heart of Vengeance**
**Step 1—”The Truth”**: Uncover the hatred and fear buried deep in Paul’s heart.
It seemed that this was not a one-step task; Fang Bo would need to gradually uncover the young swordsman’s past.
Returning to the deck of the *Bezan Black*, a muscular man with bulging muscles suddenly blocked his path.
“Well, if it isn’t ‘Lucky Jason,’” the man sneered.
This nickname had started circulating recently, meant to mock Fang Bo, implying he only became third-in-command by sheer luck. It was childish, and Fang Bo hadn’t paid much attention to it, but he hadn’t expected someone to dare challenge him face-to-face today.
“Do you think that just because you’re backed by Sam, I won’t lay a hand on you?” Fang Bo responded with a chilling smile, his cold demeanor making the man shiver inwardly.
But the man had his orders from Sam—no matter how afraid he was, he had no choice but to proceed today.
“You—” he began, but before he could finish, a flash of steel filled the air.
Paul appeared, wielding the Blade Pattern Tōshirō, his eyes blazing with anger that seemed ready to consume the muscle-bound man entirely.
Seeing this, Fang Bo knew he wouldn’t need to intervene. Paul was incredibly strong, and without using all his skills, the man in front of them wouldn’t stand a chance. He was simply a brute, far from being a match for Paul, especially now that he wielded a cursed sword.
As expected, the fight ended in just two minutes. The challenger lay in a pool of blood, covered in wounds.
“Don’t let him die,” Fang Bo said as he glanced around the deck. His voice echoed across the ship. “Hang him up and bleed him slowly. I want to watch him die bit by bit.”
“Yes,” Paul nodded and swiftly began carrying out the order.
This display of extreme cruelty silenced the other pirates, who now dared not underestimate the newly appointed third-in-command. From then on, they secretly started calling him “Jason the Brutal.”
That night, Fang Bo knocked on Paul’s cabin door. The two of them stepped onto the deck to gaze at the barely alive man hanging from the mast. As they idly chatted, Fang Bo asked about Paul’s past.
Paul could no longer hold back. Word by word, he began recounting his tragic story.
His family had once been wealthy, owning businesses across multiple islands, but one day, a high-ranking navy officer set his sights on their fortune.
What happened next was simple: the officer seized their wealth, eventually driving Paul’s family to ruin.
But it wasn’t just theft. The navy officer, in collaboration with pirates, wiped out Paul’s entire family.
Why had Paul taken to the seas? He wanted to investigate the truth of what had happened, to find out who exactly had killed his parents.
This could be investigated through the navy or by gathering information from pirates across the seas. How to proceed was entirely up to the reincarnator’s choice.
[Destiny Quest: Step One “The Truth” Completed.]
[Step Two “Clues”: Find out the truth. Perhaps starting with the Navy’s 16th Branch would be a good place to begin.]
“Wait, the Navy’s 16th Branch?” Fang Bo recalled that place from the East Blue Arc of *One Piece*. There was a certain colonel who appeared—none other than the rat-like Captain Nezumi.
He had been in cahoots with the Arlong Pirates, regularly accepting bribes from them to turn a blind eye to their tyranny over the 20 villages in the East Blue.
If anyone was likely to be the culprit, Captain Nezumi was the prime suspect. As for the pirates who attacked Paul’s family, it was almost certainly the most notorious force in the East Blue—the Arlong Pirates.
Arlong, with his 20-million-Berries bounty, was one of the rare early bosses who could take on all three of the Straw Hat Pirates’ top fighters.
Before the crew reached Alabasta, the Arlong Pirates were the toughest enemy the Straw Hats had faced.
This enemy was far more dangerous than Krieg’s crew. After all, Arlong had once been an officer in the Sun Pirates and was no one to be underestimated.
At this point, Fang Bo knew he wasn’t yet strong enough to defeat Arlong, so the Destiny Quest would have to be put on hold.
“In the future, when I have the chance, I’ll help you uncover the truth of what happened,” Fang Bo promised, spinning a hopeful tale for Paul.
All of this was just speculation for now. Nothing had been confirmed yet. Maybe the killer was just some low-level pirate.
But considering Paul’s talent, Fang Bo knew the chances of that were slim—anything less would not justify the title of “Destiny Quest.”
“It looks like I’ll have to face all the bosses of the East Blue sooner or later.”
Right now, he lacked the strength to confront them directly, so he would have to rely on storyline forces to achieve his goals. Perhaps by the time he returned, he could launch a full-scale attack on Arlong’s base.
“Tomorrow is the deadline for this mission, and the battles ahead will only get tougher.”
In a faction-based confrontation scene, the system wouldn’t let them coast by peacefully. Fang Bo had a feeling that his next encounter with the navy reincarnators was imminent.
