Chapter 3: Maneuvering the ODM Gear
“This is the Omni-Dimensional Maneuver Gear.”
Even though they were in danger, Fang Bo couldn’t help feeling a bit excited, though he did wonder if he would be able to control it properly.
As if he had sensed everyone’s concerns, Taige picked up a set of the gear and, stepping past the others, tossed it directly to Fang Bo, who stood in the middle of the crowd.
Everyone’s expressions changed. The fat guy looked a bit displeased, while the fire-wielding youth gave Fang Bo a friendly smile.
The biggest reaction came from the three remote fighters who were previously looked down upon. Their faces showed strong, negative emotions.
Fang Bo quietly observed everything without interrupting, waiting patiently for the guide’s next steps.
“To ensure the survival rate of newbies, the trial scenarios usually provide some advantages. Now, open up your personal panels. The answer you’re looking for should be in the skills section.”
Following Taige’s instructions, Fang Bo silently called out to his personal panel in his mind.
[Personal Info]
[Attributes]
[Skills]
Three sections appeared, folded up so he could open any one of them as needed.
“Let’s start with personal info,” he thought.
[Name: Fang Bo
ID: 14552
Rank: None
Merit: 0
Story Points: 0
Attribute Points: 0
Story Worlds: 0
Title: None]
It was a simple interface, but it still provided quite a bit of information.
Especially the “Title” section. Completing certain achievements should unlock corresponding titles, which would be very useful for his mission journey.
“Next is the attributes section.”
[Health: 49/50
Status: Injured
Strength: 6
Constitution: 5
Agility: 5
Spirit: 12
Perception: 10]
When Fang Bo focused his mind, an explanation for each attribute appeared.
Strength is related to melee combat and carrying capacity, and it also determines the power of certain melee skills.
Agility is similar to strength, while Constitution affects physical defense and health. Generally, Constitution × 10 equals a Reincarnator’s health bar.
Spirit is a bit more complex. It’s used for detection, enhances the power of spirit-based skills, and is required for most skill activations.
If Spirit is depleted, it may lead to unconsciousness or even brain death.
Perception is essentially a combination of the five senses. For instance, Fang Bo was able to dodge the Titan’s attack because he sensed the incoming danger beforehand.
Long-range attacks require perception for accuracy, and certain summoning skills also use perception to establish a connection with contract beasts.
While it might not seem important, Perception is actually a critical attribute that cannot be ignored.
Additionally, there are hidden attributes like Luck and Charm, whose specific roles Fang Bo didn’t fully understand.
The average adult’s attribute points are around 5, and Fang Bo’s Spirit and Perception were especially high. He guessed that this might be due to having absorbed the original soul of the body he was now inhabiting.
The talent ability had yet to refresh, indicating that the impact of this situation might be greater than he initially thought.
“Lastly, let’s check out the skills section.”
[Active Skills: None]
[Passive Skills: None]
[Basic Skills: Omni-Dimensional Maneuver Gear Mastery LV1 (Temporary)]
[Traits: *** (In Progress), Artistic Aura]
[Items: None ]
[Artistic Aura: You are a manga artist. You may not be very successful, but you possess a trace of artistic charm.]
[Trait Effect: Charm +1, +20 innate favorability with artistic storyline characters.]
“What do you mean, ‘not successful’? I just haven’t been discovered yet.”
It seemed the Artistic Aura trait came with him. So what talent did the original owner possess to be chosen by the Reincarnation Space?
With no skills, it indicated that this person was basically useless in reality.
The only explanation lay in the mysterious talent trait still being generated.
“I hope you won’t disappoint me.”
With the temporary skill “Omni-Dimensional Maneuver Gear Mastery,” Fang Bo didn’t fully master the gear, but at least he felt as though he’d trained with it for about three months.
Skillfully attaching it to his waist, it signified that the Reincarnators were about to set off for their mission.
Though he was tense to the point of feeling like his heart was about to burst, Fang Bo’s heartbeat remained steady. He couldn’t understand why his body felt so calm.
“One last piece of advice for you,” Taige said as he pressed the trigger on the hilt of his sword. A sharp anchor shot out from the machine on his waist, latching onto a distant rooftop. “For a newbie, courage is the most important thing. Remember, those who are afraid of death usually die quicker.”
As the gas released with a hiss, Taige, acting as the guide, was the first to charge out.
Seeing this, someone couldn’t help but complain, “What the heck? He doesn’t even care whether we live or die.”
Following the implanted operational experience in his mind, Fang Bo tried shooting out his hook to secure himself. His strong perception ability allowed him to quickly lock onto a suitable point to latch onto.
“There’s no specific quantity requirement, which means we only need to transport the supplies once to complete the main mission.”
But is that really a good idea?
The guide’s last words could be understood as “survival requires courage,” but Fang Bo believed there was another layer of meaning.
Those who are afraid of death might transport the supplies once and then find a place to hide.
Sure, that might keep them alive, but what about the next storyline world?
Taige had mentioned that the first world was a trial, with difficulty much lower than normal.
It’s easy to just muddle through, but in future worlds without any advantages from the Reincarnation Space, the chance of these cowards dying might be extremely high.
Fang Bo clenched and unclenched his hand several times, took a deep breath, picked up a supply box, and leaped out of the house.
The belts of the gear secured all parts of his body, distributing his weight evenly. By controlling the belts around his waist, legs, and feet, he could constantly adjust his posture while in mid-air.
“This is so damn thrilling,” Fang Bo muttered as he felt the wind rush past him, enjoying the feeling of adrenaline.
The outside environment was full of danger, and he had to constantly adjust his landing points during gliding. Anyone else might have panicked, but Fang Bo could even spare a moment to think about the storyline.
The fall of the Trost District was caused by the intentional destruction by the Colossal Titan, who kicked a massive hole in the wall.
After the Eren incident, smart people would have figured out the truth—the Colossal Titan was also a human who could transform. But without any leads, there was no way to track them down.
So here’s the question: if he were to expose the identities of the three Marley Warriors, would he receive a significant mission reward?
Of course, a baseless accusation might backfire, even resulting in him being accused instead. He would need solid evidence before making any such claims.
“Help! Somebody help!!!”
A desperate scream suddenly rang out. Fang Bo quickly turned to see a Titan right behind one of the newbies.
It was an Abnormal Titan, crawling on all fours!
