Chapter 38: Epic Flintlock “Dragoon”

Sensing the threat from above, Mikita (Miss Valentine) finally experienced fear for the first time. She had been through countless battles of all sizes, but never had she felt so powerless. Her once formidable Devil Fruit abilities were rendered useless, as though her enemy could predict her every move. Not only did they understand her attack patterns, but they had also seen through her Light-Heavy Fruit powers.

Feeling the tide turn against her, the once-proud Miss Valentine began to think of retreat. As a Devil Fruit user, relying on her powers was only natural. But now that her abilities had been deciphered, the outcome of the battle seemed likely to end in failure. Faced with the choice between 80 million Beli in reward money or her life, she found her life far more important.

Just as she was about to flee the castle, a sharp pain surged through her body, as if she had been struck hard from behind.

[Your Mental Shock inflicted 34 points of damage on Mikita.]

Fang Bo had poured 12 full points of mental power into the attack, dealing devastating damage to her. Since his mental attribute had surpassed 20 points, the destructive power of his Mental Shock had skyrocketed.

Fang Bo realized that mental power was similar to physical strength. At 10 points of strength, using 30% was one thing, but at 20 points, that same 30% produced a vastly different effect.

Now that his attributes had reached this level, Fang Bo’s mental prowess was finally showing its true potential.

Using his gas propulsion, Fang Bo slammed into the now vulnerable Miss Valentine, pressing his Blackstar gun against her chest and firing repeatedly. Against an opponent who relied solely on her Devil Fruit powers, Miss Valentine’s combat skills were no match even for many of the Black Cat Pirates.

“W-wait!” Mikita cried, her voice breaking with the pain in her abdomen. She was desperate now, panicking as her confidence crumbled.

She didn’t want to die. She was beautiful, with so much left to experience in life. How could she die here, so ignobly?

Her mind raced. If she could just buy some time, she could escape using her flight ability. But Fang Bo was no fool. When his bullets ran out, he drew his long knife without hesitation.

Mikita screamed in panic, “You can’t kill me! I’m the chief operative of Baroque Works! If you kill me, they’ll hunt you down for the rest of your life!”

A threat? At a time like this?!

Fang Bo smiled coldly. Without a word, he thrust his blade into her abdomen, ignoring her pleas.

“Unending pursuit, huh? Sounds like an opportunity to trigger a hidden quest.”

[You have killed Mikita.]

[Your reputation with Baroque Works has decreased by 200 points. Your current relationship with them is now hostile.]

[You have obtained a Storyline Chest (Purple).]

As the purple chest materialized above her corpse, Fang Bo’s smile grew even wider.

“Alabasta is an interesting place. Too bad I won’t be able to explore it this time.”

Lowering himself to the floor below using a rope, Fang Bo made sure no one was nearby before opening the purple chest.

[You are opening a Storyline Chest (Purple).]

[You have obtained 110 Storyline Points.]

[You have obtained Valentine’s Parasol.]

[You have obtained 2 Delicate Pastries.]

The parasol was an off-hand item that reduced fall damage and could block directed attacks. It was useful, but Fang Bo already had his maneuver gear, making the parasol redundant. The pastries each restored 40 health points, making them handy substitutes for his dwindling healing supplies.

Though these rewards were decent, Fang Bo felt slightly disappointed. “Looks like storyline chests aren’t always filled with great stuff,” he muttered, having hoped for something like a Devil Fruit, which would have been a huge find.

“I wonder how the others are doing.”

When he returned to the upper floor, the battle had already ended. Judging by the annoyed expression on Ryuno’s face, it seemed the enemy had escaped.

With a deep sigh, the female onmyoji spoke bitterly, “That guy used his explosion ability to escape into the air.”

“Well, that’s unfortunate,” Fang Bo replied, thinking for a moment before revealing Valentine’s threat.

Upon hearing that they might be pursued by enemies, Ryuno didn’t seem fazed; in fact, she smiled with excitement. More enemies meant more opportunities, and she was eager for the potential rewards that could come from such high-level encounters.

It was clear, however, that Ryuno didn’t fully grasp the true threat posed by Baroque Works. They had highly skilled assassins, and their methods were notoriously difficult to defend against. If they were truly angered, they might send someone from the Grand Line, which could be disastrous.

But Fang Bo chose to keep this information to himself, watching his temporary ally in her excitement.

Clapping her hands, Ryuno strode confidently toward the door of the royal chambers. “Come on, let’s pay the castle’s owner a visit.”

As her hand touched the door, Fang Bo’s expression changed. He quickly grabbed her and pulled her aside.

A loud gunshot rang out, and the thick door exploded into pieces.

At first, they thought Mr. 5 had returned, but upon cautiously peeking through the debris, they realized it was the work of the castle’s owner.

“D-don’t come any closer!” The man’s hands shook as he held a beautiful flintlock pistol, though it was clear he was no fighter.

What caught Fang Bo’s attention was the gun itself—a stunning weapon that gleamed like a shooting star. Its sleek, mirror-like silver barrel reflected the light, while intricate engravings adorned its surface, showcasing masterful craftsmanship. This was no ordinary weapon; it was a symbol of power and death. When fired, it could unleash devastating force, obliterating any obstacles in its path.

The moment Fang Bo laid eyes on it, he was smitten. Unfortunately, it was a weapon that belonged to a storyline character, meaning he couldn’t just claim it, even by killing the owner.

With Paul’s sword at the trembling man’s throat, the battle was swiftly concluded.

[Side Quest: Kingdom’s Treasure (Completed).]

[You have earned 180 Storyline Points.]

[You have obtained the Basic Shooting LV4 Scroll.]

Fang Bo immediately used the scroll to boost his basic abilities. While the rewards were decent, he couldn’t shake the feeling that they didn’t quite match the difficulty of the mission. After all, they had faced nearly two thousand soldiers and the formidable Baroque Works. The two pirate crews had suffered heavy losses, and though they had claimed plenty of treasure, it didn’t translate to significant benefits for the reincarnators.

His dissatisfaction only faded when Ryuno revealed her rewards.

Seeing the familiar silver flintlock gun, Fang Bo’s breath quickened.

[Name: Dragoon

Tier: Epic

Category: Weapon

Attack: 10-14

Max Ammo: 1

Durability: 50/50

Attribute Bonus: +3 Perception, +1 Spirit

Requirements: Perception 12, Strength 6

Equipment Effects: Auto-Reload, Ammunition Expert

Origin: One Piece]

[Weapon Rating: Use its special bullets, and no enemy before you will be unbreakable.]

[Auto-Reload (Passive Skill): Generates one bullet every 10 seconds.]

[Ammunition Master (Active Skill): Consume 2 Spirit points to imbue a bullet with special properties.]

[Special Bullet Types: Thunder, Poison, Fire, Ice, Holy, Armor-Piercing.]

An epic, single-shot flintlock pistol, perfect for a gunner who focused on spirit-based combat. It was as if the weapon had been tailor-made for Fang Bo. With it, he wouldn’t need to rely solely on Mental Shock anymore.

The special bullets, each with immense power, offered a wide range of uses, allowing him to adapt to different enemies.

And the gun’s sheer attack power was formidable. Against weaker enemies, one shot could easily incapacitate them.

Sensing his excitement, Ryuno spoke casually, “I don’t really need a gun. If the price is right, I’d be willing to sell it to you.”

She emphasized the word “price,” making it clear she wasn’t going to let him off easy.

She had completed numerous preliminary tasks to uncover the castle’s secrets, spending a great deal of time and effort. The Dragoon was her final reward, though it wasn’t suitable for her.

If the deal was fair, she wouldn’t mind selling it to her temporary ally, indirectly strengthening the team.

Without hesitation, Fang Bo presented **Monka’s Longsword**, displaying its attributes.

The weapon, while of extraordinary quality, was one tier below the Dragoon. Still, in the right hands, it could fetch a good price.

Ryuno examined it carefully before shaking her head. “Not enough.”

Considering the popularity of gunner builds among reincarnators, Fang Bo understood the market value of the Dragoon. One extraordinary weapon alone wouldn’t be enough to cover it.

Next, he offered **Valentine’s Parasol**. It matched Ryuno’s aesthetic perfectly and offered protection against ranged attacks—ideal for her as an off-hand weapon.

But Ryuno still shook her head, signaling that the two items together were insufficient.

Glancing again at the Dragoon’s attributes, Fang Bo knew the gun’s power. Using its special bullets could easily inflict 30+ points of damage, which was a game-changer. Even Captain Monka would be brought to his knees after just a few shots, and with his summoned creatures, Fang Bo could potentially kill elite enemies without suffering any injuries.

After a moment of contemplation, Fang Bo pulled out seven **Heavy Armor-Piercing Rounds**. “These are powerful. Each one is worth at least 60-70 Storyline Points.”

In total, this added up to an additional 500 Storyline Points. By trading away things he didn’t need, Fang Bo could secure a weapon that would make all the difference.

Ryuno considered the offer. Finally, she opened her mouth to speak.
