RWWOKS Chapter 48

This entry is part 49 of 247 in the series The Reincarnation World Where Only I Know the Storyline

Chapter 48: Splitting the Spoils

After struggling painfully on the ground for a while, Fang Bo slowly stood up, still shaken. He took a glance at his attribute information.

Health: 76/160 (+90)

Spirit: 10/25

That last attack had shaved off 58 points of health. If he hadn’t taken a healing potion beforehand, he might not even be able to stand right now.

Without a healer in the team, every injury meant he had to frantically consume potions. By now, Fang Bo had completely depleted his stock in this storyline. Aside from adrenaline shots that temporarily increased his constitution, there were no healing items left in his inventory.

He glanced at the healing spell in his skill list, hoping that once upgraded, it would prove useful.

Approaching Gin’s corpse, Fang Bo bent down and retrieved the dropped loot.

[You have obtained an Orange-Quality Plot Treasure Chest.]

An orange chest—two whole levels above the blue one from the shielded guy—meant the rewards would be far superior. He hoped to get something restorative since he couldn’t afford to act so recklessly without any healing supplies.

Ignoring Alvida, who was moaning in pain nearby, Fang Bo prepared to head toward the ongoing battle between the captains when the onmyoji and her two subordinates returned.

All three of them were battered, clearly having faced a fierce fight. But judging by their state, they must have successfully taken down their opponents.

“Now that you’re back, let’s divide the loot,” Fang Bo suggested.

“In such a hurry?”

“I’ve got a feeling this fight is far from over.”

In truth, his “feeling” had nothing to do with it—he was just out of healing items and feeling vulnerable. By now, Captain Kuro’s fight should have ended.

The fact that it hadn’t meant something unexpected was happening. After some thought, Fang Bo decided it was best to split the spoils now and see if they could enhance their strength.

Two plot treasure chests and two kill chests—after a brief exchange, they decided to open one each.

“I’ll go first,” the onmyoji said excitedly, eager to open the chest left behind by one of the reincarnators.

[You are opening Kill Treasure Chest No. 11402.]

[You have obtained 160 plot points.]

[You have obtained a Broken Staff.]

[You have obtained the Lightning Spell Scroll.]

Seeing the three items, the onmyoji was clearly thrilled.

The Lightning spell could cover her lack of attack options, and it could also combine with her shikigami, Akashita, to perform a fusion attack. The staff, even though broken, could still serve as her main weapon, and the additional points to her spirit attribute were worth it.

And, of course, everyone needed plot points. Still, each situation called for a different strategy.

After a moment of consideration, the onmyoji offered to buy the items from Fang Bo: “A D-rank spell and a staff that needs repairs. How about I give you 1,200 plot points for them?”

“Fair price. Deal.”

With that, the onmyoji paid Fang Bo 1,200 plot points, acquiring the magician’s items.

As for Fang Bo’s earnings…

Plot points: 3,305

Smiling in satisfaction, Fang Bo turned his attention to the shield guy’s blue chest. The good stuff would come later; for now, he decided to build some momentum.

[You are opening a Blue-Quality Plot Treasure Chest.]

[You have obtained 50 plot points.]

[You have obtained a Silver-Plated Iron Shield.]

[You have obtained the Super Defense Skill Scroll.]

Non-gold treasure chests only provided three rewards, unlike the higher-quality ones that offered four. And to make matters worse, the quality of these items wasn’t great.

Seeing Fang Bo was new to this, the onmyoji kindly explained, “An E-rank skill—complete garbage. You could probably sell it off to some rookie reincarnator. The iron shield isn’t much better. You can bundle both together and sell them.”

After some quick evaluation, she added, “You could get around 400 plot points for the pair if you put in the effort. I’ll offer you 250.”

“Fine, 250 it is,” Fang Bo agreed. He wasn’t interested in spending too much time selling items. As for the onmyoji’s pricing, he figured it was fair enough. While he wasn’t an expert, Fang Bo knew one thing: his value was worth far more than a few hundred plot points.

Unless the onmyoji wanted to burn bridges, she wouldn’t play games over a few measly plot points.

“Now it’s my turn!” she exclaimed, clearly excited.

Opening treasure chests seemed to bring out the joy in everyone. After all, collecting rewards was always satisfying.

[You are opening Kill Treasure Chest No. 13680.]

[You have obtained 200 plot points.]

[You have obtained the Ring of Resilience.]

[You have obtained the Bracers of Endurance.]

A ring and bracers—two equipment types Fang Bo was missing. A quick glance at the stats, and he was ready to claim them for himself.

Every reincarnator had several equipment slots:

Main/Off-hand, Necklace, Ring × 2, Headgear, Armor, Pants, Bracers, Cloak, Shoes.

Fang Bo was still lacking a second ring, pants, shoes, and a cloak, not to mention bracers. If he could craft the Germa tech armor, that would cover armor, pants, cloak, and shoes all at once. For now, his priority was finding a second ring and bracers to fill the remaining slots.

Whether they were top-tier or not didn’t matter—he just needed to complete his set.

[Item: Ring of Resilience

[Item Description: It helps you stay alive longer.]

[Mental Resistance (Passive Skill): Reduces the duration of mental debuffs.]

Seeing Fang Bo’s interest, the onmyoji spoke up: “Including the 100 points from the chest, just give me an additional 800, since rings are quite rare.”

“Deal.”

Slipping the ring onto his finger, Fang Bo’s max health increased by 20 points—a small but welcome boost to his survivability.

Next up were the bracers, which had decent stats as well.

[Item: Bracers of Endurance

Quality: Superior

Type: Bracers

Durability: 30/30

Effect: Endurance]

[Origin: *Mushoku Tensei*]

[Item Description: Don’t expect to lift a massive axe, but it will help you carry it.]

[Endurance (Passive Skill): Allows you to wield equipment beyond your strength limit.]

In the end, Fang Bo paid 500 plot points for the bracers, gaining yet another boost to his health.

Of course, all of this was just the appetizer. The real prize lay in the orange chest.

[You are opening an Orange-Quality Plot Treasure Chest.]

[You have obtained 200 plot points.]

[You have obtained the Armor-Piercing Dual Tonfas.]

[You have obtained the Demon Man Combat Technique.]

The former was an extraordinary weapon with armor-piercing capabilities, while the latter was a close-combat skill belonging to the story character, Gin.

Neither of these items suited their needs, so Ryuno would handle selling them off.

“The weapon is worth around 900, and the skill should go for about 200.”

The actual value might be a bit higher, but Fang Bo wasn’t too concerned. He accepted Ryuno’s offer without issue. Even if she managed to sell them for a fortune, that was her business. Once sold, he wouldn’t hold a grudge over the price difference.

Fang Bo’s mindset was broader than that.

After acquiring some new gear, his stats had improved significantly.

[Name: Fang Bo

ID: 14552

Rank: Private First Class

Merit Points: 2

Plot Points: 3455

Attribute Points: 0

Plot World Count: 1

Title: Pirate Captain]

[Health: 52/140 (+70)

Status: Injured

Strength: 8 (+2)

Constitution: 10 (+3)

Agility: 6 (+1)

Spirit: 25 (+6)

Perception: 15 (+5)]

[Equipment: Upgraded 3D Maneuver Gear IV, Dragoon Pistol, Lost Homeland, Elegant Ring, Ring of Resilience, Endurance Bracers, Germa Scanner IV]

Ignoring the specifics of the plot world he had experienced, his stats were at the peak level for a regular reincarnator. While he lacked a few key pieces of equipment, how many could claim to have a full set? Even having two protective items was already a luxury.

Watching his health slowly recover to 52 points, Fang Bo and Ryuno hurried to the final battleground.

There, unbeknownst to them, Krieg had reclaimed his golden armor and was relentlessly beating down the poor Black Cat Captain. While Silent Step was powerful, it couldn’t be used continuously, and Kuro eventually had to stop.

Each time he did, the Pirate Admiral seized the chance to unleash powerful attacks. His massive battle spear not only dealt heavy damage but also triggered explosions on impact.

Earlier, Kuro had narrowly escaped being blown away by a blast of gunpowder smoke.

[Krieg (Pirate Admiral)]

[Attack Intent: High]

[Attribute Focus: Strength, Constitution]

[Trait: Strength of an Ox]

[Threat Level: Extremely Dangerous]

“This is your target.” Ryuno, nervously gulping, glanced at a corpse lying nearby.

It was Sam’s body, the cause of death unknown, but it was clear that these two had something to do with it.

Seeing Fang Bo arrive, the two captains reacted differently. Krieg’s face darkened, looking as if he’d just lost a close relative.

“Gin is dead?” he asked.

“Yeah,” Fang Bo replied with a gunshot, as a token of acknowledgment.

But clearly, the Dragoon’s regular bullets weren’t enough against Krieg. Either he needed to aim for the head or use special ammunition.

“Useless fools,” Krieg cursed, embodying cold ruthlessness as he scorned his fallen subordinates.

Fang Bo turned to Ryuno and whispered, “Can you still summon your shikigami?”

“No, both are on cooldown.”

That made sense. She couldn’t have taken down the two reincarnators so quickly without using her full strength.

Shikigami summoning had a long cooldown, and Fang Bo’s giant summon worked the same way. With both of them unable to rely on their summons, how were they supposed to deal with the formidable enemy before them?

The answer was simple: attack his weakness.

Krieg’s heavy armor would undoubtedly slow him down. Their best bet was to strip him of his mobility.

Ammo Master loaded. Ice Shot, fire!

Target: The ground beneath Krieg’s feet.
