RWWOKS Chapter 51

This entry is part 52 of 247 in the series The Reincarnation World Where Only I Know the Storyline

Chapter 51: The Gunshot with the Countdown

Many times, the reincarnation space sets up highly competitive tasks. Its purpose is similar to a gladiator’s pit—by constantly battling, it cultivates truly powerful reincarnators.

However, due to various factors, many reincarnators are unwilling to risk everything in combat. This has led to the current “civilized” way of resolving conflicts, which Jushan referred to as a “duel,” or arena battle.

Both sides send a certain number of reincarnators, and whoever remains standing at the end of the duel gets to continue with the main mission. The losers, on the other hand, are forced to give up the task and return to the space, with any lost plot points coming out of their own pockets.

Fang Bo understood the reasoning. He could empathize with the average reincarnator’s reluctance to take risks—after all, when sides clash, only a small number tend to survive.

But that’s the mindset of ordinary reincarnators. For experienced squads like Silver Fox or NESTS, shouldn’t they be willing to stake everything for higher rewards?

Based on his previous encounters with NESTS, Fang Bo knew that group wasn’t exactly known for playing nice.

Unless…

“As far as I know, NESTS has suffered serious losses,” Jushan said, glancing toward Fang Bo. “the sniper was taken down by Jason, and their mental specialist and the strongman also died during missions. Now, only two remain.”

A lone MT (Main Tank) named Randy and a man with a powerful B-rank skill, Olsen.

Although they were still formidable, just the two of them couldn’t possibly stand against the Silver Fox team, especially with someone as calculating as Jason on their side.

NESTS likely realized they couldn’t keep fighting without risking their own lives. However, retreating entirely would be too humiliating, which led them to initiate contact with Silver Fox for an arena battle.

In the end, Jushan summarized with one final warning: “Let me give everyone a word of advice—know when to stop. Never underestimate how far a large team will go to cultivate a super rookie.”

Though Jushan phrased it as advice, it sounded more like a warning, reminding everyone not to get any foolish ideas about exploiting NESTS’s weakness and sparking unnecessary conflict.

NESTS didn’t want further casualties, and the Silver Fox team had already secured the biggest reward in this story world: a Devil Fruit.

In order to safely transport this treasure back, they had agreed to NESTS’s request and were even willing to go through the trouble of drafting a non-aggression pact.

Bound by the contract, everyone had to act as one unit. Otherwise, even if someone betrayed the agreement, they would just end up being hunted down by the Navy faction.

Fang Bo understood this logic and chose not to object, though it clearly disappointed some of the other reincarnators.

In the pirate faction, no one’s reputation shone brighter than his, so many naturally assumed the man and woman duo were the top dogs. If those two opposed the decision, the rest would have felt more confident, and the situation could’ve taken a different turn.

But alas, Fang Bo and his companion clearly had no intention of aligning themselves with the others. A few simple words were all it took to seal the decision.

Not going along with it? Fine, then next time, the Navy faction’s reincarnators would be the ones coming to negotiate.

The contract only guaranteed no infighting. There was no promise of protecting anyone else.

With that realization, the other reincarnators fell silent.

Seeing the somber expressions around him, Jushan suddenly clapped his hands and said, “Everyone, the arena battle is just to settle faction disputes. At no point did I suggest handing over the mission.”

In other words, the Silver Fox team would still be putting their all into it.

If they couldn’t win in the arena, did anyone seriously think they could fare any better in an all-out brawl?

With no further objections, the arena battle was officially set.

Leaving the café, they made their way north along the coastline until they finally spotted another group of reincarnators standing on a desolate shore.

NESTS was present, along with several others they had seen when first entering this story world.

“Fourteen people. Looks like the Navy side didn’t have it easy either,” someone commented, though the twisted grin on their face betrayed their schadenfreude. Clearly, this person enjoyed seeing others suffer, even without any personal grudge.

The reincarnation space followed the law of the jungle. There was no room for lofty morals, and people only amplified their desires.

Every day, one woke up facing life and death. Over time, it inevitably warped a person’s psyche.

Even Fang Bo was growing colder, beginning to view everyone as potential chess pieces. How could those with even less control over their emotions fare?

Ignoring the chatter around him, Fang Bo focused on observing NESTS. As expected, the strongman and the ice-wielding woman were nowhere to be seen.

“This is what the story world is all about—you never know what will happen next,” Ryuno muttered with a bitter smile, perhaps reminded of her own painful memories.

While they exchanged words, the leaders of both teams signed the contract. Whoever lost the battle would be automatically ejected from the pirate world, while the winners would get to continue searching for the Pirate King’s treasure.

Back in their own group, Jushan scanned the faces around him and asked, “Who wants to go first?”

Given the stakes, everyone needed to take this seriously. Losing meant a thousand plot points would be deducted—a blow painful enough to make anyone feel sick.

“I’ll go.” Vincenzo casually flexed his arms, his laid-back attitude unchanged.

To avoid interference, a large open space was reserved for the duel. As for safety, the contract clearly stated that neither side could kill the other. If anyone’s health dropped below 10%, a protection mechanism would activate.

“Well thought out,” Fang Bo commented as he watched Vincenzo slowly walk into the arena.

Without hesitation, Fang Bo cast an information scan on him. They’d signed the contract already, so whether or not Vincenzo liked it wasn’t his concern.

**[ID 11026 (Wandering Gunslinger)]**

Attack Tendency: Low

Attribute Focus: Agility, Perception

Special Abilities:

– Mobile Shooting: After extensive training, you have mastered the art of shooting while moving. Hit rate correction +60%, with a slight boost to movement speed.

– Quick Draw: You are an exceptional gunslinger. Drawing speed is increased by 100%, and the first bullet deals enhanced damage.

As soon as the information appeared, Vincenzo spun around, glaring intensely at Fang Bo, as if ready to lash out. “Do you want to die?” he growled, clenching his teeth as though they had some deep-seated grudge.

Fang Bo shrugged off the threat with indifference. They had already signed the contract, so childish threats meant nothing. He hadn’t encountered many reincarnators yet, so this was a good opportunity to assess a variety of interesting traits and abilities.

Ignoring Vincenzo’s frustration, Fang Bo remained composed. With nothing more to say, Vincenzo grudgingly walked to the center of the field.

The Navy faction sent out a swordsman who appeared to be highly agile, just like Vincenzo. This duel would likely come down to a battle of speed—if the swordsman could close the distance, he stood a chance to unleash a deadly combo and take Vincenzo down.

**[Countdown begins… 10, 9, 8…]**

As the countdown hit zero, the swordsman immediately activated a movement skill, aiming to rush at his opponent. However, before he could react, blood suddenly sprayed from his body. The searing pain hit him like a wave, but he was still bewildered—he hadn’t even heard the gunfire.

In mere seconds, he was hit by three more bullets, and the swift onslaught left him dead before he even realized what had happened.

Blowing the smoke from his gun, Vincenzo calmly reloaded and said, “Next.”

It wasn’t until the swordsman’s body was removed that his teammates explained what had happened.

“That guy’s draw is insanely fast—almost too fast to see with the naked eye. He shot you the moment the countdown ended.”

As soon as the countdown reached “1,” signaling the start of the duel, the swordsman had moved to act. But in that very instant, Vincenzo had already completed his quick-draw, aimed, and fired.

The swordsman had been so focused that he hadn’t even registered Vincenzo’s movement. That kind of speed was beyond mere quickness; it bordered on the extraordinary.

Realizing the extent of his opponent’s skill, the swordsman’s frustration dissipated.

Looking at the grim faces around him, he offered a bitter smile and said, “Sorry to disappoint everyone.”

“Don’t sweat it,” Randy, the MT, said as he tapped his shield confidently. “Victory will still be ours.”

As soon as those words left his mouth, everyone was surprised to see their strongest warrior step forward.

The leader of the Navy faction and NESTS team captain, Olsen, was taking the stage!

“That’s early,” Fang Bo muttered, a bit surprised.

This was the same man who had dared to hunt down Kuro of a Hundred Plans. Had Fang Bo not intervened, Olsen might have succeeded. It was clear that Olsen was a special talent, heavily invested in by his faction.

Without hesitation, Fang Bo decided to scan his attributes.

**[ID 13810 (Genetically Modified Being)]**

Attack Tendency: Low

Attribute Focus: Agility, Mental Strength

Special Abilities:

– Blood of the Serpent (Legendary):

– Genetic Modification:

Threat Level: Somewhat Stressful

The word “Legendary” gleamed brightly, immediately piquing Fang Bo’s interest. It was the first time he had seen such a high-level ability on another person. He tried to get more information, but frustratingly, his scanner couldn’t reveal any specific details.

After multiple failed attempts, Fang Bo could only sigh. “Free stuff really isn’t reliable, huh.”

But in truth, it wasn’t that the Jerma scanner had malfunctioned. In the reincarnation space, abilities marked as “Legendary” were extremely rare and highly protected—most methods of probing simply wouldn’t work. This was a special protection granted by the space itself.
