Chapter 8: Triggering a Hidden Mission
Behind the Attack Titan, two new recruits stood on a rooftop, discussing a topic shocking enough to make jaws drop.
“It’s fine. If anything unexpected happens, I’ll just use my Titan to handle it.”
The speaker was a mature-looking, blonde soldier from the 104th Training Corps—Reiner Braun.
Beside him stood a tall, dark-haired boy named Bertholdt Hoover.
Unlike Reiner’s confidence, Bertholdt seemed anxious. “But if the plan succeeds, then the breach we fought so hard to create will be sealed again.”
“It’s okay. I’ve already found what I wanted.”
Reiner was just about to explain further when a voice behind them made both break into a cold sweat.
“Reiner, Bertholdt, what are you guys talking about?”
At that moment, only one thought was ringing through the traitors’ minds.
**We’re exposed!**
Not long after, the person who discovered them—Marco—was missing his maneuver gear and ended up being devoured halfway by a Titan.
A story character named Annie soon joined the scene. She, too, was an enemy warrior capable of transforming into a Titan.
Thinking they had covered their tracks, the trio quickly left the crime scene, paying no attention to the pair of eyes that had been watching them all along.
[Reincarnator ID 14552 has triggered a hidden mission: Traitors Deserve No Mercy.]
[Mission Requirement: Defeat the three Marleyan warriors, Reiner, Bertholdt, and Annie.]
[Hint: You may be able to rely on the help of story characters.]
[Warning: The difficulty level of this mission exceeds the critical threshold and poses a nearly lethal risk to Reincarnators!]
[Warning: Upon accepting this mission, your stay in the storyline world will be extended!]
[Warning: Your actions will greatly impact the storyline. Please choose wisely!]
[Do you accept this mission?]
Three consecutive cold warnings seemed to be reminding him that accepting this mission would almost certainly lead to death.
If any other Reincarnator were in his shoes, they’d probably follow the system’s hint to seek help.
That help could only come from the highest-ranking officer here—Commander Pixis—and his underpowered Garrison Regiment.
But here’s the problem: even if all these forces joined together, could they hold back the three Marleyan warriors?
The answer was clearly no.
Forget everything else. Without proper intel, the transformation of the Colossal Titan, which was akin to a nuclear explosion, could wipe out the Garrison Regiment’s fighting power in an instant.
The Garrison Regiment was already on the verge of collapse just dealing with roaming Pure Titans, let alone the formidable three Intelligent Titans.
When the Female Titan fled from Wall Sheena, only Eren in his Titan form and Mikasa were able to put up a fight; the Garrison soldiers contributed almost nothing.
Even the powerful Survey Corps had been crushed in the open field by Annie alone.
If one were to naively report the traitors blindly, the outcome would be mission failure regardless of how they dealt with the trio.
There were also hidden risks—like Eren, one of the main fighters, possibly losing his fighting spirit when facing Annie.
Without the Attack Titan’s power, not even the sharpest blade could break through the Armored Titan’s tough skin.
If anyone believed that “strength in numbers” was the solution, they were bound for a disastrous defeat.
Watching Eren finish lifting the boulder, Fang Bo smiled and chose to accept.
[Reincarnator has accepted the hidden mission.]
[Stay duration extended by three days.]
[Mission failure penalty: deduction of 1000 Story Points!]
It didn’t specify what would happen if Story Points weren’t enough for deduction, and Fang Bo had no interest in finding out. Since he chose to accept, he naturally had some confidence.
The chances of winning a direct confrontation were slim, so the plan was to find ways to weaken the enemy’s fighting power.
For now, though, he could first rack up some mission contribution and accumulate more Steel Heart points.
With a burst of gas propelling him forward, Fang Bo shot out like an arrow from a bow, pouncing on the Titans that others desperately avoided as if he were a cat going after mice.
Level 3 Gear Maneuver mastery gave him exceptional maneuverability. Using his cables to glide along the ground, he plunged his blade straight into the nape of a short Titan.
The surprise attack was completed in one swift motion. With a splash of blood, the short Titan fell to the ground.
Unfortunately, the Titan didn’t drop a chest. But the following notification made Fang Bo feel his efforts were worthwhile.
[Legendary Trait (Steel Heart) activated: Health +1]
A brilliant smile bloomed on his face. Adjusting his posture, Fang Bo used the gas propulsion to soar up to the height of a tower.
Seeing the view from above was an eye-opener—the number of Titans was even greater than he’d expected. Eren, who was carrying the giant boulder, was about to be forced to a standstill.
“What’s going on? I remember there weren’t this many Titans…” As he considered the reason, he flew over to the area.
Upon arrival, he pretty much confirmed that the space had adjusted the difficulty.
“Figures. Otherwise, the trial mission would be way too easy.”
After exchanging a nod with the guide, he jumped down to join the fray.
Of course, Fang Bo still wasn’t strong enough to fight recklessly. Facing two Titans at the same time already proved to be quite difficult.
But he was smart—he knew who the real powerhouse was on this battlefield. No matter where he moved, he always stayed close to a particular story character.
That strong, reliable powerhouse was none other than the heroine Mikasa Ackerman.
By staying near her, he didn’t expect to be completely safe, but at least he wouldn’t be surrounded by multiple Titans.

[Legendary Trait (Steel Heart): Accumulated 4 health points in the current world.]
While the main storyline mission wasn’t yet complete and his Steel Heart wasn’t maxed out, he did manage to complete another title achievement.
[Achievement conditions met. You have earned the title “Titan Slayer.”]
**Titan Slayer:** Additional 15% damage against Titans (World-specific)
[Titan Exterminator achievement unlocked: Kill a total of 0/30 Titans.]
Unlike “Big Guy Slayer,” “Titan Slayer” was more applicable to the current storyline scene, so Fang Bo didn’t hesitate to equip the new title.
When fighting ordinary Titans, it was usually a one-hit kill. But when facing the three Marleyan warriors, that 15% damage boost might make a significant difference.
“Pfft, what’s so special about him?” Seeing Fang Bo wreak havoc among the Titans, the fat Reincarnator spat on the ground in disdain.
As the return time drew closer, his fear of the guide started to fade.
Everything might have remained peaceful, but then Sean, right in front of him, managed to loot a green-quality storyline chest.
