Chapter 96: Life and Death in Thirteen Seconds

In the midst of the collapsing ruins, a grotesque man wearing loose blue pants was chuckling softly.

“How wonderful. Even with one arm missing, you’re still handsome enough that women will like you,” Gyutaro said, watching the man lying in a pool of blood. His fingers scratched at his neck, his eyes filled with clear agitation and cruelty.

Gyutaro loved torturing his prey after they had lost the ability to fight back, gradually destroying both their body and spirit. Watching beautiful things crumble before his eyes brought him a twisted, indescribable pleasure.

This dual-wielding man was strong. Without Daki’s help, the fight between them would’ve been about 60-40 in his favor.

But alas, the guy had underestimated his poison. Just a little bit was enough to be fatal. Honestly, the fact that he was still hanging on was beyond Gyutaro’s expectations.

“In the end, you’re just a human,” Gyutaro murmured, turning his head slowly as the man writhed on the ground in agony. His gaze shifted to the figure of another intruder in the distance.

“Looks like we’ve got another guest. It’s quite lively today.”

Upon hearing her brother’s words, Daki, who had been lounging on the rooftop with her legs crossed, finally snapped to attention.

Her eyes fell on the distant man, and she muttered in confusion, “Strange, how come I didn’t notice him before?”

“He must be quite skilled,” Gyutaro said, raising his arm and licking the bloodied scythe in his hand with his tongue. “Let’s see how my poison turns you into a puddle of blood.”

Fang Bo, his face expressionless, placed the Yorichi Zero puppet in front of him. Despite the tense situation, he couldn’t help but think, *Isn’t your scythe coated with poison? Isn’t licking it a bad idea?*

With his enhanced senses on full alert, Fang Bo quickly noticed that Uzui Tengen was still breathing. It seemed like Gyutaro’s old habit had resurfaced—he loved to toy with his prey.

Even though the Sound Hashira was down, he wasn’t completely out of the fight. Given time, he could suppress the poison using his Sound Breathing technique.

For now, Fang Bo’s priority was to buy time and survive until Uzui could get back on his feet.

“A skilled fighter?” Daki grumbled, clearly dissatisfied with her brother’s assessment. She had suffered too many humiliations recently and was itching for a chance to vent her anger.

Now that someone had come right to her doorstep, there was no way she was going to let her brother handle him alone.

“I’ll take care of him,” she declared, leaping high into the air with arrogant confidence.

The Twelve Kizuki’s battle style was wild, fueled by their powerful regeneration abilities.

A regular person would never jump blindly into the air without first assessing their opponent’s abilities—it would be nothing short of foolish.

*She’s a sitting duck,* Fang Bo thought.

He pulled out the Dragoon, and with a quick flick of his wrist, fired a shot that hit Daki in midair.

With a scream, she fell like a bird with broken wings, crashing hard onto the ground.

Fang Bo hadn’t activated his Ammo Master skill; it was just a regular bullet that hit her. He knew that using his Holy Light bullets would do more damage, but he didn’t want to provoke Gyutaro too much.

If Gyutaro became overly protective of his sister, Fang Bo wasn’t sure he could handle him solo.

“Use your webs to stall her,” Fang Bo commanded.

“Understood,” Jorogumo replied, spraying a thick white webbing. It wasn’t lethal but incredibly sticky and hard to deal with. Even with Daki’s razor-sharp ribbons, she couldn’t cut through the webs fast enough.

“Annoying! So annoying!” Daki screamed in frustration, her attacks becoming more and more disorganized.

In Fang Bo’s heightened state of awareness, he could sense the fluctuation in Daki’s fighting spirit. If it weren’t for her brother being present, Yorichi Zero could have easily charged in and slashed her a few times.

With his enhanced swordsmanship, the puppet’s combat skills had also significantly improved, enough to handle someone like Daki without much difficulty.

Fang Bo’s combination of heightened awareness and his epic-grade puppet had elevated his power to new heights. But now came the real test.

In the darkness of night, the puppet, resembling the legendary Yoriichi Tsugikuni, swung its blades with precision and ferocity. Daki’s pink ribbons danced wildly in the air, slicing through the ground, yet unable to break through the six-bladed defense.

Moonlight filtered through the clouds, casting an eerie glow over the battlefield. Fang Bo’s figure flickered in the shadows, ready for any surprise attack.

Gyutaro wasn’t the type to fight fair—if he saw an opening, he’d definitely strike from behind.

And despite all his caution, Fang Bo couldn’t detect the moment Gyutaro vanished.

“Blood Scythe!”

With a violent swing of his twin blades, two sharp blood arcs slashed across Fang Bo’s body.

[You’ve taken Blood Scythe slashes from Gyutaro, dealing 64+66 points of slashing damage.]

**Health: 50/180 (+90)**

In just one attack, Fang Bo was nearly crippled. 130 points of damage—most reincarnators would have been killed instantly.

Even he was in a dire state. Worse, Gyutaro’s Blood Demon Art wasn’t just a physical attack.

[You’ve been poisoned. Your health will decrease by 3 points per second for the next 180 seconds.]

No wonder this poison was deadly enough to kill Hashira-level fighters. Even without an injury, Fang Bo would be dead in a matter of minutes just from the poison alone.

With only ten health points remaining before entering critical condition, Fang Bo had mere seconds to save himself.

Thirteen seconds, to be exact, was all he had between life and death.

Pain wracked his body, but Fang Bo’s mind remained sharp. Gritting his teeth, he lunged forward with all his strength.

*Summon the Giants!*

Three beams of golden light flashed as the Giant Trio appeared.

But in this situation, even the Abnormal Titans were no match.

“Such ugly things,” Gyutaro sneered, finally finding something more repulsive than himself.

Yet instead of pity, it only ignited his deeply buried bloodlust.

“Why is the world so unfair? Why must we suffer because of our appearance?”

“Anyone who dares to look down on me must die!”

*Blood Demon Art: Raging Blood Scythe!*

His bloodied scythes whirled around him, slashing dozens of times in an instant. The poor giants were torn apart, their remains scattered across the ground.

But they had bought Fang Bo some precious time. As soon as he hit the ground, the first thing he did was chug a healing potion.

[You consumed Char-grilled Sea King Limb, restoring 108 health points.]

He had narrowly brought his health back from the brink, but the poison continued to gnaw away at him. With three health points lost every second, Gyutaro still looming close by, Fang Bo knew the threat of death was still very real.

Yet, to his surprise, a smile crept across his face.

“Don’t keep me waiting too long, you bastard.”

Just as those words left his mouth, Daki’s head flew off with a single slash. Standing there, like a god of death, was the one-armed Uzui Tengen, his gaze locked on the man who had severed his arm.

“I’ve figured out your attacks. Now die, demon.”

As a user of Sound Breathing, Uzui had developed a special battle technique known as “Score.”

By converting the rhythm of an enemy’s attacks into sound, he could anticipate and counter their moves based on the patterns he deciphered.

*Sound Breathing, Fourth Form: Constant Resounding Slashes!*

Wielding his dual blades, Uzui charged forward. The clash of titans began in an instant.

As their blades flashed, Gyutaro felt an overwhelming pressure. The now-revived Hashira’s attacks were fiercer than before, and every counter Gyutaro attempted was met with perfect defense.

Could it be that this man had truly seen through him?

“Impossible!”

Gyutaro refused to accept it, because “being able to fight” was his entire existence.

Unfortunately, reality wouldn’t bend to his will, just as Uzui Tengen could not escape the poison coursing through his body.

He had to do everything he could to sever the demon’s head before his inevitable death. That was Uzui Tengen’s duty as the Sound Hashira.

As the two dual-wielding warriors clashed in a fiery exchange, Fang Bo and his shikigami were already closing in on Daki, who had just reattached her head.

“Give her a shot—disobedient children need to be punished,” Fang Bo said with a grin.

Just as Daki finished reattaching her head, she heard his outrageous remark. Dodging the incoming spider blade, she was about to make a snide comment when she was hit head-on by Jorogumo’s control move.

*Heart-Eating Poison!*

The searing pain that followed made Daki scream in agony. It felt as if some monstrous creature was gnawing away at her from the inside, driving her to the brink of madness.

Taking advantage of the opening, Jorogumo launched a flurry of attacks, continuously injecting her poison that suppressed cell regeneration into Daki’s body.

Before she could recover, Yorichi Zero unleashed a devastating critical strike, lopping off her freshly reattached head once more.

Fang Bo gave his shikigami a glance, and Jorogumo immediately understood.

Using her webs, she tightly wrapped Daki’s severed head and sprinted away with it.

Rather than repeatedly chopping off the head, preventing it from being reattached was the best approach.

Even without her head, Daki could still fight, but she was no match for the overpowering damage from Yorichi Zero.

Within seven seconds, Daki’s arms were sliced off, and the puppet pinned her body to the ground with its blade.

After devouring the last piece of char-grilled Sea King limb and restoring his health above a hundred points, Fang Bo rushed over to the immobilized Daki. He stretched his sinful hands toward the woman who was already too weak to resist.

“Plunder!”

What did it matter if the poison was fierce?

With his healing ability, such a petty poison was hardly worth mentioning.

As long as Daki remained alive, Fang Bo would never fall.

In a way, it was a twisted case of “he who ties the bell must untie it.”

*Bang!*

Gyutaro’s blood scythes were sent flying. He stared at Uzui Tengen, whose face now bore the telltale marks of the Demon Slayer’s battle crest, a flicker of despair flashing in his eyes.

The next second, his head was severed with a single slash!
