MWM Chapter 106

This entry is part 107 of 599 in the series In Marvel: I Start by Marying Scarlett Witch

In the evening, inside the dining room of the manor, Leo instructed Credence:

“I have something to attend to shortly and might not return until tomorrow afternoon. I’ve already organized the first-year textbooks. You can start studying them on your own, and I’ll teach you more when I return.”

“There are many magic books at home. If you’re interested in any, you can ask Bally to get them for you.”

“If you want to eat or drink anything, just tell Bally, and she’ll make it for you. If you need anything else, you can ask Bally to go to Diagon Alley to buy it for you.”

“Mm… I understand, Teacher!”

Credence looked at the table full of dishes he once never even dreamed of, and tears welled up in his eyes.

He wasn’t sad; rather, he felt incredibly fortunate to have met his teacher. It was as if he had been lifted from hell and brought to heaven in an instant.

“Eat up!”

Leo patted Credence’s bowl-cut head.

He adopted Credence mainly because of the Obscurus within him and his innate talent, but he also genuinely felt some sympathy for him.

It was similar to when he adopted Xiao Wu and Xiao Liu back in the day.

However, if Credence had absolutely no value, no amount of sympathy would have led Leo to adopt him.

After dinner, Leo changed his appearance and Apparated to a desolate cliffside somewhere along the English Channel.

There, a bearded middle-aged wizard had been waiting for some time.

“To New York!” Leo said.

“Thirty Galleons,” the bearded wizard replied, revealing a mouthful of rotten teeth.

Leo readily handed over thirty Galleons to the wizard and stepped onto the iron barrel beside him.

Apart from the official Portkeys issued by the Ministry of Magic, there’s a black market where Portkey merchants specialize in illegal crossings. With them, there’s no need for registration to travel to other countries.

But the fee is fifteen to sixteen times higher than that of the Ministry’s Portkeys.

Previously, when Leo used the Ministry’s Portkey, it cost nearly two Galleons, while the black market’s price was a steep thirty Galleons.

There’s no choice. Wizards who cannot rent a Ministry Portkey are either restricted from leaving the country or are wanted dark wizards. In such cases, even fifty Galleons would have to be paid.

As the world spun around him, Leo used the black market Portkey to arrive in New York once again.

“Six-thirty, dusk. The Ministry of Magic should still be open; the timing is perfect.”

Using transformation magic to change his appearance once more, Leo Apparated to the entrance of the Magical Congress of the United States.

After breaking into prison yesterday, today he was planning to do it again.

Except this time, instead of rescuing Newt and his companions, he was going to rescue Grindelwald, whom he had personally sent to prison just the day before.

If he had pledged allegiance to Grindelwald during his prime, he would have been nothing more than a dispensable subordinate, forced to follow orders—a fate Leo had no intention of accepting.

What he wanted was to stand on equal footing with Grindelwald, to collaborate rather than serve.

The reason he had worked so hard to send Grindelwald to prison these past few days was not only to elevate his current identity as Tom Fleury but also to establish a preliminary relationship with Grindelwald through this prison break.

Of course, it would be under a different identity.

Since his transformation magic is completely unbreakable by this world’s magic, he could easily create a new identity for himself—a mysterious figure with no traceable background.

Riding the magical elevator down to the 50th underground floor once more.

“Sorry, sir, this area is off-limits. Please leave immediately.”

Seeing the unfamiliar wizard striding towards the prison gates, the two Aurors on guard immediately drew their wands, becoming alert.

Though the last prison break that allowed Newt and his group to escape was a misunderstanding, they still received a verbal reprimand for their negligence. Now that Grindelwald was imprisoned here, any further mistakes would result in more than just a verbal warning.

“Oh… really? I thought this was the Portkey office. My apologies, I’ll leave right away.”

Leo stopped politely and flashed an apologetic smile.

Seeing that Leo was unarmed and his expression was sincere, the two Aurors relaxed their guard for a moment.

But just then, Leo quickly formed hand seals:

“Illusion Technique: Golden Binding Art!”

In an instant, the two Aurors were horrified to find themselves completely immobilized.

The Golden Binding Art, a D-rank illusion technique, tricks its target into believing their body is paralyzed, temporarily freezing them in place.

Typically, ninjas use it against ordinary people and animals. Since it’s a basic illusion technique, a normal ninja can break free by slightly disturbing their chakra flow.

The principle behind illusion techniques is to disrupt chakra, which then creates the effect. But would ordinary people without chakra still be affected by illusions?

Leo had previously experimented with this.

The experiment showed that it works. In fact, the weaker a person’s spirit and willpower, the stronger the effect.

Because chakra is the energy formed by combining physical and spiritual strength, illusion techniques mainly disturb the spiritual energy within the chakra, causing ninjas to experience illusions.

Ordinary people don’t have chakra, but they do have spiritual energy, which means they can still be affected by illusions.

This is similar to when Kaguya first activated the Infinite Tsukuyomi after eating the fruit. At that time, there were no ninjas on Earth, only ordinary people, yet they all fell under the illusion.

And during the Chunin Exams, the ANBU also used this technique on the beasts in the forest.

However, this was Leo’s first time using an illusion technique on wizards. To prevent the effect from being weakened by their magical bloodline, he quickly used a body flicker technique to knock them out the moment they were paralyzed.

He searched their pockets for the keys, unlocked the prison door, and dashed straight to the bottommost cell where Grindelwald was being held.

With his speed, he quickly reached the cell’s deepest level.

Unlike the iron cages outside, this cell at the bottom was isolated by a metal corridor and was fully enclosed. Moreover, ten Aurors were stationed in the corridor outside the cell, guarding it around the clock.

“Who goes there?”

Seeing Leo rapidly approaching from the other end of the corridor, the ten Aurors immediately raised their wands.

Leo swiftly formed hand seals:

“Lightning Style: Ground Walk!”

Blinding lightning coursed through the metal corridor, swiftly reaching the ten Aurors, causing them to tremble all over, cutting off their half-spoken incantations.

Casting magic requires drawing a wand, waving it, and chanting a spell, while ninjutsu only requires hand seals, making it somewhat faster.

Using the Lightning Style ninjutsu to buy time and close the distance, Leo, with his superior physical strength and combat skills, quickly subdued all ten Aurors.

“Boom!”

With a loud crash, Leo violently kicked open the iron door, revealing Grindelwald, who was shackled to an iron chair, looking astonished.

“It seems I don’t know you?”

“Hello, Mr. Grindelwald, I’m here to rescue you.”

Leo smiled as he replied.
