After a round of interrogation, Leo finally understood the whole story.
The three believers worshipped a Dragonborn named Miraak, who was the first person to be granted the Dragon Soul by Akatosh, the God of Time.
Miraak was once a priest serving the dragons. Thousands of years ago, when dragons ruled over humans, Akatosh bestowed the Dragon Soul upon Miraak, hoping he would take on the mission to defeat the dragons and the World Devourer, Alduin.
However, after becoming a Dragonborn, Miraak immediately betrayed the dragons, killed many of them, and absorbed their souls to grow stronger.
But he did not fulfill his mission to kill Alduin and save the world. When the three Nordic heroes invited him to join them in slaying Alduin, he refused.
For unknown reasons, Miraak secretly fled to Solstheim with three of his most trusted dragon priests. After conquering the land, he enslaved its people to build his temple.
At that time, Solstheim was part of Skyrim and not the isolated island it is today.
Later, Alduin, furious at Miraak’s betrayal, sent the Dragon Cult leader Vahlok and the dragon priests to Solstheim to kill the traitor. A fierce battle ensued, splitting Solstheim from Skyrim and turning it into an island.
Eventually, Vahlok managed to destroy the temple and kill Miraak. In recognition, the dragons appointed Vahlok as the “Jailer” to oversee the entire island of Solstheim.
However, according to the three followers, Miraak didn’t actually die. At the final moment, Miraak seemed to receive help from a Daedric Prince and escaped to another realm.
The followers had always felt Miraak’s presence, passing their faith from generation to generation, waiting for his return. Recently, their patience was rewarded when Miraak’s will passed through the shrine they built, crossing the planes to manifest on Solstheim again.
He informed them of his imminent return and demonstrated immense divine power, controlling many villagers on Solstheim and beginning to restore his damaged temple and other structures to assist his return.
But then, the temple leaders received news of another Dragonborn appearing in Skyrim—Leo. They assumed Leo was an imposter, thinking his existence would offend the true Dragonborn, Miraak. So, they sent the three followers to Skyrim by boat to find and eliminate Leo, the “fake” Dragonborn.
“This Miraak guy is pretty strong, huh? He can even enslave dragons.”
After learning all the information from the three followers, Leo couldn’t help but develop an interest in the first Dragonborn.
The fact that he shattered a landmass, forming an island, certainly proved Miraak’s strength, but Leo believed that with his full power, he could do the same.
What intrigued him most was the legendary shout that Miraak could use to enslave dragons—a shout that Leo had never seen in the Greybeard’s library or heard mentioned by them.
“Oh well, let’s focus on killing dragons to power up first.”
Although Miraak was strong, Leo wasn’t too concerned. If Miraak could be defeated by Vahlok, he was likely no match for Alduin.
Leo decided it was better to deal with the dragons and Alduin first before confronting the original Dragonborn.
So, he withdrew his spirit from the Moonlit World and continued speeding on his cloud toward Kynesgrove.
In less than ten minutes, Leo and Delphine arrived near Kynesgrove.
The area around Kynesgrove was a small town, and the townsfolk made a living through mining. At the moment, however, the town was deserted; likely, they had all hidden away upon discovering a dragon nearby.
Leo sensed that they were hiding in a mine next to the town.
“According to the map on the Dragonstone you found, there’s a dragon burial mound here. I suspect that black dragon was revived from this mound,” Delphine said gravely after they landed, setting aside her power struggles for the time being.
The Blades were dedicated to slaying dragons, but this generation was facing them for the first time, and it was impossible for them not to feel at least a little uneasy.
“Well, let’s check it out then.”
Leo nodded casually and walked toward the dragon burial mound without concern.
He also had the Dragonstone map in his head, so he knew where the mound was.
“I suggest you put on your golden armor. Dragons vary in strength, and this black dragon might be stronger than the one you killed before,” Delphine urged with a frown, worried by Leo’s carelessness.
Only a Dragonborn could truly kill a dragon, and if Leo died, the Blades would be powerless to defeat the dragons.
“Don’t worry, I’ll put it on when necessary,” Leo waved it off.
If it was just an ordinary dragon, his current strength didn’t require the golden armor. And if he did encounter a dragon strong enough to match him, he could instantly equip it.
“Sahloknir, I return your eternal dragon soul; come forth, return to life!”
Suddenly, a soul-stirring dragon shout rang out from the forest nearby, causing Leo’s expression to change immediately. He sensed a life force far stronger than that of Mirmulnir, coming from the direction of the shout.
“Could this be Alduin reviving a dragon?”
Sure enough, he heard a conversation in the dragon language:
“Alduin, my king! Is it time to revive your ancient rule?”
“Yes, Sahloknir, my loyal guardian.”
Leo quickly grabbed the cautious Delphine and, with a burst of excitement, transformed into a flash of sword light, flying toward the source of the dragon shout.
“Wow, ordinary dragon souls are already such a great boost. I can’t imagine how powerful Alduin’s soul would be!”
Although Alduin was mighty, he was only a fragment of Akatosh and didn’t have his own domain. He was also once defeated by three Nords, so Leo figured he could take him on.
During his time at High Hrothgar, he had learned much about the Dragonborn. The Dragonborn was created by Akatosh specifically to deal with Alduin, and they naturally had a restraining effect on him.
And if things got too dangerous, he could always teleport away.
But if he managed to defeat Alduin and absorb his dragon soul, his spirit might instantly reach its peak.
It was worth the risk—turning a bike into a motorcycle!
Within seconds, Leo was already standing on top of the dragon burial mound in the center of Kynesgrove, with Delphine in tow.
There, he saw two massive dragons taking flight.
