- MWM Chapter 528
“Your Majesty, here’s the situation.”
Upon hearing Leo’s inquiry, Koladar quickly detailed the events of the past two days.
In truth, he did not fully grasp the nature of the situation.
Yesterday morning, everything seemed as usual. He was dozing off in his lord’s hall while listening to his subordinates report on Winterhold’s financial status.
Suddenly, the entire city of Winterhold shook as if an earthquake had struck. It reminded him of the Great Collapse years ago, prompting him to rush out of the lord’s hall with his men to investigate.
They soon discovered that the Winterhold Magic Academy, not far away, had been enveloped in a mysterious blue barrier.
Moreover, from within the blue barrier, a swarm of terrifying magical creatures emerged, attacking anyone they encountered with ferocious aggression.
Koladar swiftly gathered all of Winterhold’s forces, striving to protect the citizens while combating the magical creatures.
However, the creatures were too powerful, and his troops were forced into retreat. He had no choice but to send a plea for aid to the Imperial Capital.
Just when they were about to lose hope, several elder mages emerged from the Winterhold Academy, using sinister and terrifying spells to defeat the magical creatures.
And so the situation has remained since then.
“Your Majesty, I am certain that this is the doing of those evil mages at the Winterhold Magic Academy. I suggest we disband the academy at once to ensure the safety of Winterhold.”
Koladar, angered, offered his suggestion.
Even though the mages of Winterhold had helped them eliminate the creatures, he felt no gratitude. He believed that these magical creatures were released by the mages themselves, making them the root cause of the problem.
He feared that these wicked mages might cause another Great Collapse, which could completely erase Winterhold from existence.
Yet, he was well aware of the power of the Winterhold mages, too powerful for him to confront. His only hope was that the stronger Leo would handle the situation.
“I will consider it. Where are those Winterhold Academy mages now?”
Leo responded indifferently and then changed the topic.
Koladar turned and pointed towards the direction of the Winterhold Academy.
“They’re on the high platform outside the blue barrier.”
“Lead the way.”
Leo commanded.
Under Koladar’s guidance, they crossed Winterhold and walked along a stone bridge, arriving at a circular platform in front of the Winterhold Magic Academy’s gates.
On the platform, several elderly elves and Breton mages were discussing something while gesturing towards the energy barrier that enveloped the academy.
In most magical organizations and academies, the majority of instructors and professors were either High Elves or Bretons.
These two races possessed a natural talent for magic, making it easier for them to attain higher achievements in the magical arts.
When they noticed Leo and his entourage approaching, they displayed expressions of confusion.
Whether commoners or nobles, the people of Winterhold generally feared the academy and wouldn’t dare step foot inside, especially after the recent magical creature attack.
“Tofdil, in the presence of His Excellency, the Dragonborn Emperor, why have you not yet paid your respects?”
With Leo present, Koladar boldly shouted at the gathered Winterhold mages.
The mages exchanged glances, surprised. After a brief consultation, they bowed in unison to Leo.
“Greetings, Dragonborn Emperor.”
The Winterhold Magic Academy had always maintained neutrality, focusing solely on the study of magic without concerning itself with worldly affairs. But this did not mean they were foolish.
The Dragonborn Emperor had defeated the World-Eater Alduin, subjugated dragons, and was on the verge of uniting the entire continent. Such a presence was not one that the Winterhold Magic Academy could afford to antagonize.
Especially now, with Winterhold facing its greatest crisis in centuries.
Even before this, whether it was the Overseer from the Ancestor’s Divine Province or Imperial envoys seeking to copy magical texts, their Archmage Savos Aren never raised objections.
“Enough formalities. Where is your Archmage, Savos Aren? What sort of magic are you experimenting with, or is there a problem within the academy?”
Leo waved his hand, cutting straight to the point.
The elder mages exchanged uncertain looks, and eventually, one of them, named Tofdir, stepped forward to explain on behalf of the academy.
“Your Majesty, the Archmage is dead, and we are not conducting any magical experiments.”
Not long ago, while researching the ancient ruins of Saarthal with some apprentices, they had accidentally uncovered a massive magical sphere.
Upon consulting ancient texts, they learned that this orb was the legendary artifact known as the Eye of Magnus.
Before they could decide how to handle this artifact, Ancano, a Thalmor advisor assigned to the academy, seized control. Using the Eye’s power, he killed Archmage Savos Aren and sealed off the entire academy.
It was only through the self-sacrifice of Mirabelle Ervine, the academy’s headmaster, that a few of the most powerful professors were able to escape.
Despite their efforts over the past two days, using their most potent spells, they remained unable to break the barrier created by the Eye of Magnus.
“The Eye of Magnus!”
Hearing Tofdir’s account, Leo’s eyes lit up.
Who was Magnus?
He was the mythical architect of Nirn, the one who designed this world. He was also the first to discover Lorkhan’s creation scheme and fled, leaving behind the path that became the sun of Nirn.
Such a powerful divine artifact was naturally of great interest to him.
“So, the Thalmor are behind this. It seems they wish to use the power of the Eye of Magnus against the Empire. I cannot sit idly by.”
Leo’s expression turned solemn as he approached the blue magical barrier.
In truth, he was looking for a legitimate excuse to intervene, but this reason could very well be the truth.
“If Your Majesty is willing to help, the academy would be eternally grateful.”
Tofdil’s face immediately showed a glimmer of hope.
They had been powerless against the magical barrier, but perhaps the mighty Dragonborn Emperor could succeed.
“Phantasmal Translocation!”
Leo attempted to teleport directly into the academy, but he remained in place after the attempt.
“A space-sealing barrier, huh? Then I’ll force my way through!”
He clasped his hands together and invoked:
“Thunder Style: Divine Thunder of the Ninth Heaven!”
Above the Winterhold Academy, a dark cloud formed, followed by a terrifying purple lightning bolt that struck the blue magical barrier.
“What a powerful destruction spell!”
Faralda, the academy’s top destruction master, sensed the immense power of the purple lightning, and her expression immediately filled with disbelief.
