MWM Chapter 79

This entry is part 80 of 599 in the series In Marvel: I Start by Marying Scarlett Witch

“Is it safe? We must ensure that it’s 100% safe for humans and won’t cause any other harm. Our goal is to benefit humanity—making money is secondary. Safety must come first!”

Leo’s face showed joy, but he still emphasized this point once more.

He didn’t want to face any issues later on for the sake of short-term profits and end up becoming an enemy of all humanity.

If the new drug caused all cancer patients on Earth to turn into Hulks, the world would be thrown into chaos.

While transforming into the Hulk could theoretically cure any disease—no matter what terminal illness you had, the Hulk’s powerful genes could eliminate it completely—that wasn’t what Leo wanted. His goal was to cure diseases without causing any other adverse effects on the human body.

This was the main focus of Dr. Stern and Dr. Banner’s research during this period.

“Boss, you can rest assured. We’ve conducted numerous simulations, and we can fully confirm its safety,” Banner said, nodding firmly. He was impressed that Leo’s first concern was safety, which reassured him that his decision to join was the right one.

A week ago, Banner had detected the reappearance of the green gene in his body, indicating that the antidote hadn’t been completely successful.

After much consideration, along with Betty’s persuasion and Dr. Stern’s advice, he officially joined the Li Group as a researcher, just like Stern.

This way, he could continue studying his green gene in hopes of finding a complete cure, while also helping with the development of the new drug, returning to his original purpose as a scientist.

Moreover, if he left the Li Group, he’d have to hide in some remote place to avoid being hunted by people like Ross. But in such remote areas, there wouldn’t be advanced equipment to continue his research.

“Since we can confirm the safety, notify Jack to prepare for a press conference and promotion, and then begin production!”

With Banner’s confirmation, Leo felt confident that there wouldn’t be any major issues.

Although the new drug currently only worked against cancer, there were over a hundred types of cancer, ranging from early to late stages. While some minor cases could be cured, most required various treatments like surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and targeted therapies. Even with successful treatment, the cost of anti-cancer drugs could financially ruin a family.

For many late-stage patients, even after a successful surgery, they might only live for another six months to a year.

But now, with the drug developed by Stern and Banner, just one pill could assimilate all cancer cells into green cells and expel them from the body.

In other words, regardless of the type of cancer, its stage, or previous treatments, one pill could cure the disease and restore the patient to health.

What cancer patient could refuse such a treatment?

Every year, 18 million new cancer cases are diagnosed worldwide, in addition to the millions of existing patients. The numbers are staggering.

Selling this cure for $10,000 per pill isn’t unreasonable—converted to RMB, that’s about 70,000 yuan.

In fact, considering the drug’s efficacy, even selling it for a million yuan per pill wouldn’t be overpriced.

But his goal was to quickly amass wealth and reach the mid-level target of the main mission. If the price were a million per pill, only a small number of wealthy individuals could afford it. Most middle-class families would need time to gather the funds, and the poorer ones might never be able to afford it, even after years of saving.

But at 70,000 yuan, most families could manage. Even if they were short on cash, they could borrow the money.

Many people are unwilling to lend money to patients because they fear it will become a bottomless pit of debt. But if one pill could cure them, with the ability to repay later, most people would be willing to lend the money.

As soon as the new drug is launched, it’s likely that within a week, every cancer patient in the world will buy a pill, with some wealthy individuals even stockpiling them.

The Li Group’s assets would multiply rapidly, reaching a level comparable to Stark Industries.

Additionally, considering his brand as a conscientious company and his image as a philanthropist, he couldn’t sell the drug at too high a price. Otherwise, even Banner and Dr. Stern might feel uneasy about it.

Of course, this new drug would likely create more enemies and attract even more envy.

But that didn’t matter—he had already planned for Xiao Wu and her assassination squad to be stationed in New York permanently. Once enough people had died, no one would dare to challenge him.

He wanted to send a clear message: anyone who dared to reach out against the Li Group would face one outcome—death!

……

The next day, Leo arrived at the airport where Tony’s private jet was parked, right on time.

Tony’s jet was far more luxurious than Leo’s. While Leo’s jet was mid-range, purchased for the convenience of international travel, Tony’s was a top-of-the-line, modified Boeing 737, upgraded with cutting-edge technology.

The interior had been stripped of standard seats and transformed into a luxurious stage where passengers could drink, sing, and even dance with the beautiful blonde flight attendants on board.

Leo couldn’t help but marvel at how Tony, a top-tier playboy and billionaire who had been wealthy his entire life, truly knew how to enjoy himself.

The hearing was quite the spectacle, with the HYDRA mole, Senator Stern, presiding over it.

Stern had brought in Justin Hammer from Hammer Industries, a former competitor of Stark Industries, and Colonel Rhodes, Tony’s friend.

Through their professional assessments, they set the tone that the Iron Man suit was not just an ordinary flying device but a unique, potentially dangerous weapon.

They then played the morality card, arguing that the technology should be handed over to the government in the name of national security, pointing out that other countries were also developing Iron Man suits.

But Tony had anticipated all this. He hacked into the screens with his more advanced tech, displaying footage of failed Iron Man suit attempts by other countries, effectively debunking the argument that his suit posed a global threat.

Tony boldly declared that as Iron Man, he alone could protect world peace, without needing to hand over his technology to the government, leaving Senator Stern speechless.

While Tony was holding everyone’s attention, Leo quietly moved to a corner, releasing a shadow clone and handing it an explosive tag.
