- MWM Chapter 326
“Quill, what are you doing?”
Five days later, after finishing their training, Leo and Wanda entered the control hall of the ship, only to find Star-Lord crouched down, clutching his groin in pain.
Grimacing, Star-Lord looked up and replied through gritted teeth, “Nothing, I just wanted to listen to some music with Gamora, but her reaction was… a bit unexpected.”
“Hmph, I’m not one of those naive girls who would fall for your… uh… that lower-body spell of yours,” Gamora retorted, her arms crossed, though her eyes betrayed a hint of distraction.
Despite never having been in a relationship, Star-Lord’s relentless pursuit over the past few days was beginning to wear down her defenses.
From the second floor, Nebula stood by the railing, shaking her head in quiet disapproval. “Sister, your taste is really questionable.”
“Alright, we should be getting close to Xandar, right?” Leo casually cast a healing spell on Star-Lord, easing his pain, before turning to ask Karkarra.
Karkarra nodded respectfully, “Boss, we’re about thirty minutes away from Xandar. However, our Ravager ship is blacklisted on Xandar, so we’ll need to switch to a smaller ship to enter.”
“In that case, we’ll continue with our own ship,” Leo said, taking out the Mind Stone scepter and releasing his control over Karkarra and the others. He then led Wanda and the group back to their octopus ship.
They had enslaved Karkarra’s crew for a while as punishment for trying to rob them. But after seeing Contraxia, Leo realized Karkarra’s ship was too junky to bother keeping. He had more than enough money to custom-build a top-tier ship once they reached Xandar.
“Wow, this is your ship? I kinda miss my Milano now. Next time I see Yondu, I’m stealing it back,” Star-Lord quipped, raising an eyebrow as he looked at the octopus ship.
When he fled from Yondu, he had to leave behind his prized Milano to avoid being detected. He had hoped that with Leo’s wealth, at least the ship would be on par with his Milano, but now that he saw the octopus ship, he wasn’t so sure.
“Don’t worry, there’ll be bread, and there’ll be milk too,” Leo said, patting Star-Lord’s shoulder and walking into the ship with Wanda, smiling.
Star-Lord shrugged as he watched Gamora follow Leo inside, then quickly trailed behind them. After all, his true goal was Gamora, and what Leo said didn’t really matter.
The octopus ship launched again, darting out of the Ravager ship like a pinball, heading straight for Xandar.
However, since the octopus ship was much slower than the Ravager ship, it took them three hours before they finally saw Xandar.
“What a beautiful planet!” Wanda exclaimed as she gazed out the ship’s windows at Xandar.
Unlike the gloomy, dark Contraxia, Xandar gleamed with a metallic silver hue, likely due to its highly advanced technology, and sparkled brilliantly under the light of its sun.
As they drew closer, a massive star-shaped city began to appear on the horizon.
“Isn’t there some kind of inspection before we land?” Leo asked in surprise as the ship, piloted by Nebula, slowly landed in a designated docking area filled with alien visitors from all over the galaxy.
Given how advanced Xandar was, he expected stricter security for incoming ships, and it was odd that they were able to enter without any registration or inspection. After all, even on Earth, entering a different country required a lot of paperwork.
“Xandar is the capital of the Nova Empire. They uphold peace and freedom here and are protected by the powerful Nova Corps. As long as you don’t break the law, only medium or large ships equipped with destructive weapons need to register and undergo inspection. Small ships like ours aren’t considered a threat,” Gamora explained.
Star-Lord chimed in, “Yeah, that’s right. I used to bring my Milano here all the time to collect bounties from the brokers.”
“It sounds like you know Xandar well. How about being our tour guide for the next few days? Don’t worry, money’s not an issue,” Leo said, assigning Star-Lord his next task.
Gamora was familiar with various planets because she had studied a lot of planetary data, but Star-Lord’s knowledge of Xandar came from his frequent visits to the planet, even getting arrested here several times. Many of the Nova Corps officers knew him personally.
“This is too easy for me. First, we’ll take a public air vehicle to the best hotel in the galaxy, and then we can—”
Eager to impress Gamora, Star-Lord began boasting about his knowledge of Xandar, like a peacock showing off its feathers, but Leo interrupted him halfway through.
“Quill, we’re not staying in a hotel. We’re buying a house here, right in the heart of the city. A big one, to serve as a temporary base for the Guardians of the Galaxy.”
The Nova Empire was one of the most powerful empires in the galaxy, second only to the Kree, and Xandar was its capital, filled with cutting-edge technology and resources. It was the perfect place to establish a long-term base, where Leo could eventually bring his company’s researchers to study and improve their skills to better serve him.
He wasn’t a scientist, so he could only gather the advanced knowledge from here and take it back. But Earth’s scientists would struggle to decipher such advanced alien technology on their own. Sending them here to learn directly from the experts would be much more efficient.
Unfortunately, whether it was using Apparition, a Portkey, or the Flying Thunder God technique, none of them allowed for teleportation over such vast interstellar distances. Otherwise, things would be much simpler.
Unlike the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj, who borrowed power from dimensional gods to cast spells and create portals that could span universes, Leo relied on his own strength. For him to teleport over such a long distance, he would need to be on par with a being like a dimensional god or at least at the Skyfather level.
“Are you sure? We’re talking about Xandar here. Buying a big house in a prime location could cost as much as a large ship!” Star-Lord exclaimed, shocked by Leo’s statement.
