Chapter 47: Demon Man Gin
The commotion caused by the two captains was so intense that everyone else had no choice but to leave the small tavern. Even being grazed by Krieg’s massive golden war spear could easily result in broken bones or worse. After seeing what had happened to Butchi, no one wanted to experience that kind of pain firsthand.
“Hey, kid,” Pearl stepped outside, holding up his silver shield with a cocky grin. “Choosing me as your opponent is the biggest mistake of your life.”
Ignoring his words, Fang Bo calmly loaded a special bullet and fired a piercing shot directly at the center of Pearl’s shield.
[Skill Activated: Ammo Mastery. 2 Spirit Points consumed. The next shot will ignore 60% of physical defense.]
[Your piercing bullet dealt 30 mixed damage to Pearl.]
This guy was clearly the type with high constitution. The best way to deal with him was to slowly chip away at his health.
Rushing things would only make him lose his focus.
“Damn you!” Pearl glared at the crack forming in his shield, filled with rage.
He raised his arms, and suddenly, blue flames flickered across his enormous shield.
Seeing this, Fang Bo immediately fired the hooks of his 3D Maneuver Gear. With the assistance of its gas-powered boost, he narrowly dodged the barrage of flaming metal balls shot in his direction.
Though Fang Bo wasn’t particularly agile, his gear gave him excellent mobility, allowing him to dodge and maneuver around with ease. The cumbersome brute below him couldn’t keep up.
Once the ten-second cooldown ended, Fang Bo fired again, hitting the target below. Pearl screamed in frustration, wishing he could knock Fang Bo out of the sky with a single blow.
Realizing he couldn’t catch Fang Bo, Pearl turned and ran toward the tavern, hoping to assist his boss.
But just as his hand touched the doorframe, a set of sharp claws grazed the top of his head, and in the next second, his right ear fell into the dirt.
“Argh!” Pearl screamed in agony, clutching his bleeding face, forgetting all his previous confidence.
Like Krieg, Pearl believed in the invincibility of defense, but unlike Krieg, he didn’t have the funds for a set of golden armor.
“What a pity.” Fang Bo landed on the ground, his gaze falling on the ear lying in the dirt.
For all his yelling, Pearl hadn’t even bothered to pick it up.
Spinning his Dragoon rifle, Fang Bo was finally experiencing the thrill of being a gunslinger.
It felt great to keep your distance, slowly wearing down your opponent’s health with bullets. No wonder so many people gravitated toward this playstyle.
They say that agile assassins naturally counter gunslingers, that brutish brawlers dominate in close combat, and that even perceptive players can dodge bullets with their eyes closed.
In this hierarchy of disdain, the only thing gunslingers could brag about was their effectiveness against tanky opponents.
Just like with Pearl, who, despite being an elite pirate, had yet to even touch Fang Bo’s coat.
“Curse you!!!” Pearl couldn’t accept the reality before him, charging like a mad bull toward Fang Bo.
But Fang Bo was prepared. With a flick of his finger, his 3D gear propelled him into the air.
Pearl tried to leap and grab him but only managed to position his head perfectly under Fang Bo’s rifle. Staring down at Pearl’s bloodied, rage-filled face, Fang Bo pulled the trigger.
Bang!
Pearl’s brains splattered across the ground like a cracked watermelon. His body hit the dirt, lifeless before he even fell.
[You have obtained a Blue Plot Chest.]
“A blue chest?” Fang Bo muttered, disappointed. He hadn’t expected much from Pearl, but he didn’t think he’d be this weak.
For someone supposedly the third-in-command, his strength didn’t even compare to the naval captain Fang Bo had defeated earlier.
He chose not to open the chest just yet. He and the Onmyoji had already agreed beforehand to split all the rewards equally after the battle. Whether it was this plot chest or the kill chests from the two reincarnators she had slain, they would all be divided fairly.
Glancing at his remaining spirit points, Fang Bo prepared to assist the others. Alvida, ugly as she was, might not stand a chance against Gin.
Before he could make a move, a familiar figure came barreling around the corner. That hefty frame could only belong to Alvida. Her face was bruised, her nose broken, and her left arm bent at an odd angle.
Hot on her heels was Gin, relentless in his pursuit, his iron tonfas spinning with deadly precision. The iron balls at the end of the tonfas were strong enough to shatter Pearl’s shield with ease.
If Pearl was a joke, Gin was the real deal—a true elite, and a formidable one at that.
[Gin (Demon Man)]
[Attack Intent: High]
[Attribute Focus: Strength]
[Special Trait: Unyielding Will]
[Threat Level: Evenly Matched]
Unyielding Will: Possesses a will of steel, reducing the effects of negative status conditions.
“Evenly matched?” Fang Bo thought. From the looks of it, Gin’s strength was comparable to his, with a difference of no more than 3 points either way.
If Fang Bo could take down Gin, the chest would definitely be of higher quality than Pearl’s.
“Hang in there!” Fang Bo called to the fleeing Alvida, rushing forward to help her deal with Gin.
Seeing help arrive, Alvida gritted her teeth and swung her spiked club toward Gin. Despite her strength, she was too slow, and Gin easily dodged.
With a swift and brutal counterattack, Gin’s iron tonfa smashed into Alvida’s side, sending her screaming in pain, not unlike Pearl’s earlier wails.
Unlike his bumbling ally, Gin was far more experienced in battle. Seeing Fang Bo aiming a gun at him, Gin grabbed the nearest thing—a very unwilling Alvida—and used her as a human shield.
“Damn it,” Fang Bo muttered, lowering his weapon. He couldn’t kill Alvida, at least not yet.
Just as he was debating whether to summon his giants, Gin hurled Alvida at him with a powerful throw, like a boulder tumbling down from a mountain. No one in their right mind would try to catch that.
Instinctively, Fang Bo ducked beneath Alvida’s airborne form, all the while keeping his rifle aimed. He knew Gin would use this moment to close in.
Sure enough, Gin’s figure appeared, and Fang Bo didn’t hesitate to fire a flame round.
The shot hit its mark, engulfing Gin in flames, but his cold, emotionless eyes didn’t even flinch, as if he couldn’t feel the fire burning his flesh.
For a moment, Fang Bo felt a chill deep in his core. Realizing the danger, he immediately activated his giant summoning technique.
But he was too late. As soon as the golden lightning struck, Gin’s iron tonfa smashed into Fang Bo’s chest.
Demon Man Style: Bone Crusher!
Fang Bo’s health plummeted, and he was flung through the air like a ragdoll, bouncing twice before finally coming to a stop.
Coughing up blood, Fang Bo forced himself to stand, his body wracked with pain.
He quickly ate a piece of delicious cake and injected himself with a dose of adrenaline, temporarily boosting his constitution by 5 points, bringing his health back to a safer level.
Health: 94/160 (+90)
“What a terrifying opponent,” Fang Bo muttered. Having summoned his giant, he was down to only 12 spirit points. He needed to fight smart from here on out, avoiding unnecessary use of special bullets.
Gin wasn’t in great shape either. The flame round had taken a toll, and the burns from the ten seconds of fire damage were starting to show.
Proof of that was Gin’s inability to go on the offensive against Fang Bo’s giant, spending most of his time on the defensive. Occasionally, Gin would strike back, but his attacks lacked the usual force.
Little Lick focused on attacking Gin’s lower body, especially his vulnerable areas, causing even the cold-hearted Gin to sweat profusely.
After smashing Little Lick with a powerful strike, Gin thought he had finally dealt with the pesky giant, only for its head to start regenerating, emitting steam as it healed.
“This is insane.”
Before Gin could retreat, Big Head lunged forward, its foul breath overwhelming.
But the real danger came from below—Little Lick, having grabbed onto Gin’s leg. Though Gin broke free in less than two seconds, it was enough time for the other two giants to close in.
Not wanting to get caught between them, Gin unleashed his ultimate move, Demon Man Style: Bone Crusher Frenzy!
His wild, ferocious attacks quickly reduced Little Lick and Big Head to pulp, their bodies unable to regenerate this time.
Now only the tankiest of the three giants, TuTu, stood between Gin and Fang Bo.
One minute passed, and Fang Bo had eaten his last piece of delicious cake, bringing his health up to 134 points. He prepared for the final showdown with Gin.
Using Tutu’s massive frame as cover, Fang Bo kept his distance, firing shots whenever he could, each one making Gin break out in a cold sweat.
Bang!
Reacting quickly, Gin managed to block the bullet, but the force of the shot knocked one of his iron tonfas out of his hand.
In that brief moment of hesitation, TuTu, the giant, grabbed Gin in a crushing bear hug.
Knowing he was at a life-or-death crossroads, Gin didn’t waste a second. Summoning all his strength, he broke free from the giant’s grip, even though it meant leaving a chunk of flesh from his shoulder in the giant’s jaws.
The severe blood loss made Gin feel a wave of dizziness wash over him. In a desperate move, he bit down hard on his tongue, using the sharp pain to force himself to stay conscious.
Grabbing the only iron tonfa he had left, he swung the heavy iron ball at the giant, smashing its head completely. As the massive body of the giant collapsed, Gin found himself staring down the barrel of a cold, dark gun.
The shadow of death loomed over him. With all his strength, Gin launched a final attack, the force of his swing creating a gust of wind that made Fang Bo squint in response.
Gin was counting on this moment of hesitation, hoping it would give him the one chance he needed. If he could just close the distance, the detestable gunslinger wouldn’t stand a chance.
But Fang Bo saw through his desperation. Ignoring the terrifying swing of the iron ball, he calmly pulled the trigger.
“Goodbye, Demon Gin.”
Bang!
